Couple quick thoughts on the game:
Movable Object vs Resistible Force – the Bears DL is among the worst units in the NFL (defense dead last in sacks with 2, and 18th against the run). Our OL is, well, our OL. Washington cannot afford to let the Bears get pass pressure from the down four—we have to force them to bring extra bodies and then consistently exploit the gaps. Our OL will not get a better opportunity to take control of a game this season.
Start Fast – this is a classic “can’t let them hang around” game for Washington. da Bears season is caving in around them, and they’ll be looking for any kind of spark. If we are sloppy and can’t get them in a hole early this game could get a lot dicier than it needs to be. Our offense needs to capitalize on opportunities with TD’s, not FG’s, and our defense needs to force Justin Fields to beat them with actual drives, not busted hero plays. We have the better roster. We have the better coaching staff. We’re at home and playing for a possible playoff spot. They are another bad loss or two from imploding. We need to take control of this one early and slam the door.
Confidence is Scary – I am as confident heading into a game as I have been in a long time. That scares me. It is still too easy to recall squandered opportunities and humiliations galore when I’ve actually started to believe. I’m not sure how long it might take to truly get past that feeling, but seeing this particular team, in this particular time, turn in a professional performance and take care of business tonight in a game they are supposed to win … well, that would be nice.
