Haskins - Going Forward

Rivera doesn’t care about fan polling. I think it’s likely a combination of things - he isn’t showing significant progress, they weren’t sold on him from the get go, and perhaps don’t like how he’s responded to coaching?

Have to wonder if he ends up traded...?

I dont know whether to laugh or cry at this. We have drafted so many QBs in the past decade...and nothing to show for it.

we also need to lose out pretty much to get him.

Jets 0-4
Giants 0-4
Falcons 0-4
Texans 0-4

not saying the Texans or Falcons need or want a new QB (texans no 99%) but I think the Gnats could go for Lawrence.
 
Not to be ‘that guy’ but I told you guys Rivera really likes Kyle Allen and that he wasn’t just brought here as ‘insurance’...

Yeah I'm only half-serious about Lawrence. We'd definitely need to have the first overall pick, and I don't think we're THAT bad.

If somehow the world swallows us up though and we DO pick first, I don't see any possible scenario where we don't pick goldilocks. He's one of those "can't miss" types coming out from everything I read, see and hear.
 
Allen has shown that he is super turn over prone but if he has worked on things then that will be a plus. Part of me wonders if maybe the players might have lost faith in Simba. I can only imagine watching film with the team and on several occasions WRs pointing out how open they were and didnt even get a nod. Could something like that have played into it? Whats the craziest to me is the fact that A.Smith will be listed as the back up so there has to be something more to this to go from starting our first 4 games to getting knocked way back. ugh heres to hoping for the best. HTTR!

Allen played very well at times last season - keeping in mind he worked his way to the backup spot as a rookie UDFA. He was under constant assault - over 50 sacks in 12 games and it could’ve been more. A lot of those INTs came under duress. He will throw picks but he also knows how to move the offense. I could be horribly wrong but I predict that we’ll immediately see a difference with him under center.
 
Dropping to 3rd on the depth chart essentially is "Observe, watch and hope you play again". I have to be honest though, I'd love to Alex get in a game this year after all he went through, he might've not been lighting it up when he was starting but we had a winning record. With Haskins I'm not sold he's done here but he definitely needs time to learn, with no off-season and how he was initially tossed to the wolves last year I'm not surprised.
 
Like I said: I would rather see interceptions on someone trying to hit the deep guy instead of staring down the same TE every play and throwing directly to the defender.

I think this is important to remember. As a coach, you are paid to make the tough decisions. You can’t just do what fans want. We can say we want this or that, but the coach is in that position to make those hard decisions. His job is on the line and he bears responsibility for what happens. I know what I’ve said they should do, but I’m just a guy on a website spouting my opinion. Rivera has to do what he believes is best for the team.
 
The other thing all fans should keep in mind is that, if Haskins is not ultimately proven to be a very good NFL QB, every minute we continue to go forward with him is wasted time that holds the rest of the team back.

Fans will argue that the coaches haven’t had enough time to determine that. But the coaches may well feel they have. Fans cannot be objective - because we want desperately for a highly drafted QB to be a star. The coaches can’t bet on that. Their careers depend on winning and to do that they have to find someone they believe in.
 
Saw someone on Twitter suggest this may have been in part the result of Haskins agent’s social media post criticizing the team. Seems like a stretch but maybe he was brought in and asked about it and things escalated?
 
serious question: has there been a successful Ohio State QB in the NFL in the last 30 years?
 
Haskins has been bad... really bad... really, really bad... but to go from starting to in street clothes... ? He had to piss off someone in Ashburn. This is more than just performance.
 
I read earlier in the week that Haskins' agent had possibly been mouthing off about how his player was being mistreated and what not...I wonder if that escalated and could have contributed.
