Haskins - Going Forward

More disconcerning here is how the team is airing QB business out to the public.

Joe Gibbs never tried to throw his starting Qb under the bus in public...always kept those things in house.
No team ever benefits from that.
It's done with this club with regularity. All that serves to do is to feed the media(like they need help) and stir the fanbase(what's left of it) up even more.
The on field team performance is bad enough, just don't see any benefit in doing these extra-curriculers....

Getting a read on Haskins right now is becoming more and more difficult for me. The offense is just abysmal, I don't know if it's the play calling getting too cute at times, trying to do too much with limited talent or if we are just so short on talent it doesn't matter. I went back and watched part of the game yesterday evening (didn't feel like watching Philly and 9er's) and at times the entire offense seems lost or they're just putting in a lackluster effort, I can't put my finger on it yet.
 
I've said all season we have no identity.

are we a run team?
are we a pass first team?
are we a west coast offense team?

What is the identity of the team that we can grab on to and say "expect XYZ"?

I think that hurts Haskins as much as his bonehead plays.
 
I am sure Scott Turner has very definite ideas about what makes his offense tick (in theory). But I think he's using this season to determine what the personnel they have are capable of executing. Based on what we know, that he loves the short passing game and involving the RBs in it as hybrid RBs/WRs, I think Haskins is a poor fit for it. Haskins, if he is going to thrive, needs a more traditional offense with a focus on mid to deep balls and crossing patterns with occasional play action thrown in. He has a powerful arm and can deliver with velocity. You've said he has 'no touch' which I don't agree with entirely. But it's certainly true that he is far more comfortable rifling shots downfield than delivering shorter range passes that require more finesse.

Ultimately - I'm like you. I'm not really sure what our offensive identity under Turner is going to be. But I'm becoming more convinced Haskins (whether he becomes a reliable starter or not) probably isn't the ideal guy to run it.
 
during the game when I say things like "no touch" I am most likely frustrated and over it all. I know he can get the ball there softly, but he really does just try to force in too many bullets to a covered receiver.

I would much rather have him go deep to McLaurin if hes going to try to force passes.
 
I really don't know at this point. What you want to see, in addition to the blow-up games like we saw against Cleveland (and to be fair, he hasn't had many of those), are games where he lights it up. There really haven't been examples of that. He's had some decent games where he helped them win. But I don't recall any games where I was wowed and thought 'this is what the future can look like'. There is an 'it' factor when it comes to an NFL QB that is hard to define, but you know it when you see it. I'm not seeing it with him. At least with someone like Daniel Jones, you have seen some great performances which would give one hope that the mistakes can be eliminated and you can get him closer to the player he is at his best. With Haskins, you see some 'wow' throws, but have we really had even a single 'wow' game. I'm not sure we've seen a 'wow' half.
 
Who's he throwing to Boone?

He's got one real receiver, a QB converted to TE and a bunch of UDFAs...and a RB/WR hybrid that's wet behind the ears.
And that's not even accounting for the hodge podge he has for an Oline.
Good OC's can scheme people open, so where's that with Turner?

You are right about one thing you've mentioned in several threads: the loss of Harmon this season has hurt this offense more than fans want to admit.
 
I agree that the OL is not ideal and I've asked the same question about coaching - that they don't seem to be doing much to assist him (although I think they did more in the last game to do that with lots of short passing calls). But he has time with many throws and can't make them. He has open receivers and misses them - sometimes badly. And he stands there at times like a deer in the headlights taking sacks he shouldn't instead of throwing the ball away. He's not playing well even when the opportunities are there. That's just what I'm seeing.
 
I agree with Boone here and I question what motives he has to not try and scramble out of the pocket. Sure he has done it a few times but more often than not, and please correct me if I am wrong, he seems to step up into the pocket while under pressure and is forced to make a bad throw. I would think he should be able to read the defense a bit better to see where pressure might come (I know our O Line is not the strongest right now) and at least do what he can to get out of the pocket to try and see what, if anything, opens up or just run it up field for a few yards.
 
another week where Haskins will probably get slaughtered.

Aaron Donald might end up actually hurting him if he gets to him as much as he most can.
 
Or for God’s sake, just throw it away if no one is open. How often have we seen him do that? More often than not, he is pressing and waiting and taking the sack. He definitely has serious issues with the idea of taking what the defense gives you and avoiding negative plays.

Something happened outside of the game. We argue about "bench him!!" all day with each other, but coaches are usually different.

Did he get in to it with someone? Is Rivera just being overly emotional?

Could it just be football? I don't think that is the case, but I can admit I was getting closer every play.
 
I wonder if Rivera / Turner / Zampese looked at the film and he just left way too much on the field?

I did not expect this. I don't really agree with it. I guess there is a chance that they want to pull him back and let him observe? My assumption is they are done with him and the Haskins era is over but who knows. This is kind of strange timing....

If I had to guess, Ron and Scott did a comprehensive review of the game films so far, and coaches films of practices this week, and have seen enough missed reads, etc., to pull the trigger.

Not inconceivable a couple veterans also took Ron aside and mentioned that the locker room was ready to NOT have the QB position holding back the rest of the team.

Either way ... big news. River Ron don't play.

And in unrelated news ... I hear this Trevor Lawrence kid is pretty good.
