Great Movies That Others Might Enjoy, Or Ones To Avoid

We watched that. JW is a great actor. Loved him in West World and he’s very good in the new Paramount+ drama series The Agency. Very early in his career he had a supporting role in an episode of Homicide: Life on the Streets.

I finally got around to watching Furiosa at the weekend, then paired it up with Fury Road as a double bill.

Loved it. The cinematography and stunts are breathtaking.

Rented 'Nosferatu' on PPV. It's very dark and atmospheric. Got halfway through it yesterday, will watch it all the way through today.

I am done with car chase scenes. Or worse the guy with a gun chasing another guy with a gun where neither can hit a wide open target, a plastic table is now bulletproof and they have clips that hold 20 rounds.

I watched Queen and Slim with my two teenage kids (one Black and the other Hispanic). We had an interesting talk about it afterwards and whether their expectations. My daughter was completely fatalistic saying things like, "Well, that's what it's like to be Black in America." Still we did talk, about even when it seems like nobody would help them, people went out of their way to help them and those who did so were of all populations. Similarly, those who tried to screw them were of all races too. For those who haven't seen it, I would recommend it while noting one has to watch through to the very end to fully take in the story instead of giving up half way through.

Then last night, I watched Juror Number 2 with my oldest daughter. She got on me after asking why I picked movies that left her thinking about justice and other ways she doesn't understand the world every night. I told her I like to watch movies that make me think about what motivates others because often their actions make a lot more sense from that vantage point. She is autistic, so she asked me quite a few times in both movies why the characters did what they did. She liked the movies afterwards because they made her think slightly differently about the characters.

We watched Flight Risk and Twisters over the weekend and they both are terrible.

Flight Risk may be one of the worst movies I've ever watched start to finish - I almost cut it off and wish I did.

Twisters is just one of those sequels that had absolutely zero reason to be made and there is so much wrong with the movie and it does absolutely nothing better than the original.

Yeah, Twisters was awful but better than The Gorge.

The Gorge was god awful. Strong competitor for the worst movie I have ever had the displeasure to sit through.

We have a theater here that has 6 dollar movie on Tuesday so I am thinking about going to see something tonight. I'm sure that my wife will want to pick Captain America, and it looks like there isn't much else that might be good. Apparently the reviews say it's not that good.

Mostly kid movies. I'll be avoiding those for sure.

I couldn't sleep a couple nights ago so I turned on Amazon Prime and found what I thought would put me to sleep.

A boring looking documentary called The Fish Thief. But it was actually pretty good so I ended up watching the whole thing 🤣.

It's about something I never even knew happened about 100 years ago where all the fish in the great lakes started disappearing. I was thinking, it must have been all the pollution. Nope.

Exactly what I said after watching it. There was no reason to redo a very well done movie

I saw Twisters on a flight to Vegas in December. I’m glad I wasn’t the only one who was wondering why this needed to be remade. I was on a plane for 4 hours, so it kept me busy for part of the flight. But I couldn’t remember much remarkable about it, other than it felt like a cheap retelling of the first movie with some details changed so they didn’t have to keep any continuity or call it a remake.

I know that I'm not the only one who didn't need to even watch Twisters to know that it was going to suck.

It's like when they came out with a new Total Recall. Why?

Yeah, I second that! Did we really need a 'Robocop' remake? I'm surprised they haven't tried to re-do the Godfather movies. I guess it's a lot easier to recycle proven material than come up with something original.

Aftermath on Netflix is a pretty bad action movie. There is some action but not much and there's really no other redeeming qualities.

I watched cell 211 this weekend. It is s great thriller movie if you don't mind subtitles. It is in Spanish. It is about a prison guards first day on a maximum security jail. It goes so so wrong. The movie definitely earns it's rotten tomatoes score in the high 90's.

That said, I had to laugh throughout the movie at the subtitles mistaking cajones ( Spanish for balls because the guy is crazy brave) and translating it as calzones. The whole movie, one would think the guys name is Calzones instead of Balls.

Watched "Nosferatu" over the weekend, if you like a solid period piece "Dracula" story it's good, I loved the lighting, and overall presentation and it was a good vampire movie.

I thought the Gorge was decent certainly fell short in areas but watchable/enjoyable. It was good to see Ripley again err, Sigourney Weaver.
