Great Movies That Others Might Enjoy, Or Ones To Avoid

Just watched Goodnight, Mister Tom on YouTube. It's an older movie set during WW II where a hermit (Tom) living in a village outside of London takes in a refugee child from London during the bombings and they both heal each other by movies end. The refugee child had an abusive Mother, and the hermit Tom had lost his wife and son years earlier.

Since some of you guys have interest in war-themed movies, forgive me if everyone has already seen this somewhat oldie, but Thin Red Line was amazing

I only go the theater for movies that demand a big screen. Blockbusters like Mission Impossible, Oppenheimer, the Dark Knight, etc. Two nights ago we saw The Odyssey at the local IMAX. Not cheap but well worth it.

Watched 'Obsession' last night. Kind of strange, it's available on Peacock but is still in theaters near me. It's a wild horror ride that male viewers will especially appreciate.

Saw the new Spiderman movie last night. Thought it was really good. I've always liked Spidey, though the MCU aka Comic Boob Industrial Complex, eh, never really gotten into.

But it was a really good movie.

- It was long. But they spread the set pieces around well enough that the pacing was actually perfect.
- Tom Holland is a great Peter Parker. Just pulls it off perfectly.
- You would expect the onscreen chemistry to be fire between Tom Holland and Zendaya, and man, it was.
- No spoilers, but Sadie Sink (who's confirmed in the movie but they didn't confirm her role) is absolutely wonderful. She was Max in Stranger things.
- They blended just enough of the wider MCU cannon that it was interesting, but not so much that you felt you had to do homework to go see the movie.

Project Hail Mary is definitely my favorite movie of the year. This might be second.

Going to see the Odyssey tonight, so everything might be bumped down a peg.

Interestingly me and Mrs SO also watched Spiderman as well last night. It was an eh for us, it was jumpy, slow to start but once it picked up, ok. I also couldn't stop whispering bukake at certain points but I'm a man child. Please note: We both think Spidey 2 with Maguire and Dunst cant be topped when it comes to the web slinger.

Generally speaking, people really like this movie.

As I said, I really liked it.

I am a big fan of movies with a band or music theme to them and can make a few recommendations.

'Once'. This is a very good little film. Glen Hansard is a struggling street musician who meets a beautiful cleaning woman (who happens to be an amazing trained pianist) and he falls in love with her as you will. Very sweet movie, and even more so since Hansard was just killed in a motorcycle accident. They won an Oscar for best movie song (for 'Falling Slowly'), I believe may have gotten married in real life for awhile, and started a band together.

'Begin Again'. Mark Ruffalo is a washed up alcoholic music producer whose wife has left him and who is estranged from his daughter. He by chance meets Kiera Knightley who is a budding songwriter and performer. You need to see this one to find out what happens. Amazing movie many have never heard of.

'Yesterday'. You've probably watched this one. Entertaining 'what if...' movie (in this case, what if the Beatles had never existed...
