Good Morning!

:help: :tantrum: I got a little fumed reading the latest in the Health Care thread Sarge started so I needed to come here to wish you all a great day to counter my frustration with the direction this country is taking!

I hope you all have a fantastic day, especially you commie liberal bastages! :grouphug:

If you haven't done so in a while, give your soul a present ... watch a sunrise.

Find a quiet spot ... a beach, a hilltop ... away from the hustle and bustle. Get settled while it's still dark. Don't talk. Don't think. Just be.

Watch the new day come slowly, inexorably, peacefully ... as it always has, as it always will until long long after Man has moved on.

Let Perspective wash over you.

Stay until you can no longer look directly at the sun.

It will stay with you for days.

I'm going to spend the 4th of July weekend in the New Mexico mountains, and watching the sunrise is one of the things I'm really looking forward too.

Have a wonderful day yourself, El-and everyone else.

I get frustrated at politics myself which is why I very seldom join in on a political thread.

Why? Well...

This thread, being the antithesis of a political thread, being full of good will and best wishes is therapeutic. I'm going out for a walk in the beautiful sunshine in a few minutes.

That's therapeutic too. :)

I didn't realize that there were so few others with me in the purple:)

Thanks Serv, and Om. It has been a rough 6 weeks. I have not had a full day off since I began renovation of my girlfriend's house on March 31 (I have done a great job if I may say, pics to follow). Between that and getting crazy with the busy season at work I have been burning it at both ends. But the house is almost done and by the end of May we will enter the slowest part of the year so I can catch up on some things since I will probably get laid off for the summer. .

Jamie, more impressive than the sunrise in New Mexico is the sunset. Between New Mexico and Arizona, I have never seen more beautiful sunsets and that includes over the Gulf of Mexico, in Key West, the Rockies, Appalachians, Vancouver and the Pacific.

I have to admit, right about now I miss living 5 minutes from one of the most beautiful beaches in the country. Why did I leave Florida? Oh yeah, to be closer to the Redskins!

In the winter in Anchorage, the shortest day of the year is about five and a half hours and the sun remains very low on the horizon. So sometimes if the clouds are right, there is basically a sunrise/sunset that lasts all day.

It's probably been 20 years since I've done that. Every weekend, I'm up pretty early to ride with my brother...and I pass this lake. It's not sunrise, but the remnants of it are lingering....mist still rising off of the water, water birds roosting on logs...it's beautiful. I need to be there one morning to catch the entire show :)

I have however watched a lot of Scarlett Johansson flicks of late. That ain't bad in terms of a substitute.

Mmm...Scarlett Johansson! A sense of innocence mixed with a sultry edge. I like her!

Had the chance to drive through Delaware Water Gap, PA this morning early for a photo shoot in the mountains. I saw several bodies of water in the early morning light with a bit of mist rising above. Unfortunately, I was given bad directions so I was late and could not enjoy it as much as I should have. Or fortunately, since I would like to keep the tone of this thread upbeat, I got to see some tremendous sights I otherwise would not have seen.

Oh, on another positive note. I got home to see that my girlfriend had cleaned the house of the majority of the remaining construction debris and my Master Suite is 96% complete. Man, I must say I am proud of myself, this old house (Built in 1881) is looking pretty darn good!

Well guys, it is just about mid day but I wanted to send a greeting to you all anyway. Hellooooo!

I have nearly completed the remodeling job, but am complete enough to have moved in and show it off. I just have a couple of pieces of trim to put up. I was afraid the parkay floor was ruined from all the debris but they came out fairly nice as well. Here it is.

Greetings back to ya! Looks good, El-thanks for the slideshow. :)

Hmmm....this thread hasn't had much attention in the last couple of weeks or so, and I'll gladly shoulder my part of the blame for neglecting it and try to make an amend by posting something I'm grateful for.

First of all, good morning to everyone-hope this day finds you well and in good spirits.

I wanted to talk about a man-an unsung hero, one who has brought relief to milllions who suffer, who has unknowingly prevented random acts of mayhem and destruction-but first a preface.

I went for a walk this morning, I walk every day for numerous reasons and one of them is vitamin D. I discovered recently that vitamin D deficiency is endemic among people over 50 years of age-which includes me-and, even though I drink milk and eat cheese, I don't want to take any chances-so I walk.

It's been hot in Raleigh, North Carolina the past few days. I'm not talking the normal hot either.

Hot. An unholy combination of furnace and sauna has descended upon the region-temperatures in the mid 90s with a suffocating humidity pushing the Temperature Humidity Index into the low 100s-a THI of 103 today with a prediction of 106 or better (worse?) tomorrow. Thus I decided to take my walk between 9:30 and 10:00 this morning.

Mistake. Overnight the humidity stayed relatively high and remained that way so when I walked outside the door-I walked into a tomato aspic.

The air was heavy, a burdensome cloak that added weight to every step-a grasping, clawing thing that seemed to try to pull the very skin and sinew off one's bones.

I walk through an office complex near my apartment building-it has numerous elevation changes to give my legs a workout.

It also has buildings. Masonry buildings. In this weather they're known as heat sinks. Walking close to one, which my normal route causes me to do, is what I imagine the interior of a convection oven to be like. The heat literally jumps out and grabs you like that great aunt we all had who when we were children would pinch your cheek until it hurt. But these buildings pinch your whole body in to a convulsive mass of "get me the hell out of here!."

This excursion into Dante's nightmare lasted about 45 minutes. The last section I walked on the way home was, blessedly, not only downhill but shaded with, mirabile dictu, an occasional breeze that was like a flotation device thrown to a drowning man.

At last I arrived at my building, climbed the stairs, and opened the door...

Which brings me back to the subject of this missal. The hero of the day, a man whose birthday I suddenly feel should be a national holiday, a miracle worker who has prevented strokes, murders, riots, mass hysteria, and the complete collapse of civilization itself.

Willis Haviland Carrier.

The inventor of air conditioning.

In before noon!

Good morning, BGO. I hope life finds you all strong, happy and healthy!!

I have no idea how you guys can live in a place that has such crappy weather.

Yeah, I lived in the South for one summer, Tallahassee. It was one summer too many! The humidity and heat made for the most miserable summer in recent memory, couple that with the fact that I was taking 3 classes in a 6 week period while trying to plan for the Hall of Fame induction trip to Canton the weekend before finals started on the following Monday morning at 8am.

But, the character of the people and the community feeling in the South compares to none other I have experienced. Having lived in the Northwest briefly, the Mid-West, the South, South Florida and having grown up in the DC area, I can tell you the people in the south were fantastic! The Mid-West had friendly people as well, but there is something about community importance in the South like no other region I have experienced.

But, as Serv has mentioned, thank God for Willis Haviland Carrier! Especially when I lived in Tallahassee since June through September the temperatures remained near 100 with extreme humidity, so I can understand your reservations Alaskan. But we could pose the question to you in January.

Good day all and have a Blessed Day!

January = Flannel sheets, wood fires, X-country skiing, Irish crème and coffee, no yard work.

had a great date last night...woke up this morning and she made me breakfast. gotta love it when a woman appreciates you.

Translation: Went to bar and struck out with every woman there. Left at closing time alone and went to a Denny's to get a cup of coffee. Fell asleep in the booth. Woke up at 6:30 and was served a Grand Slam by a waitress named Flo.

:)

Happy Monday.

T minus four days until I'm on a plane back to Hawaii for two weeks :)
