Once again.....if we sign this guy, his deal must be one that we can absorb and afford to drop if need be. But I'm liking the idea of him coming here because what that means is exactly what I've read before - it means that we can go heavy on linemen in the draft - and that's something I feel still needs to be addressed. Nice thing is, it's not out of the question for a couple guys to start on the lines as rookies....especially when drafted high, as in rounds 2, 3 and 4.

Could turn out to be a nice offseason plan after all....

....I hope.

And, if Philly doesn't skip a beat without him, then anything we pay him will be wasted money.
 
It's funny. Some of you guys are getting more and more sold on him as this goes on. For me it's less and less.

I have this sinking feeling we're gonna break the bank for this guy, and the deal will have Snyder's grubby little hands all over it.

I certainly hope the punk mother****er flies out of town today without a contract.
 
The bottom line is the bottom line.

If he produces at his talent level he is worth top dollar.

But if he doesn't we are likely going to be hampered with the cap down the road.

But Jackson to me is not Archuleta or Brandon Lloyd or Lavaranues Coles.

He is a legit max impact player in his prime.

Eh, I'd call him good, but not elite.
And WR a need, but not dire.

He is without a doubt, a punk. At his peak. ;)
 
Coles was 26, coming off a 89 catch 1264 yard season. Jackson is EXACTLY the calibre of player Coles was.

And actually, Coles by himself was not a bad signing. But he was a symptom of a much deeper problem. I have said several times that if we got Jackson for a modest deal I'd take it in a second. If we open up our wallets for this guy ... it will smell awfully familiar. And not in a good way.

I would agree with this, but also Coles pre toe is comparable to Jackson, post toe he fell off a cliff.
 
I think we need to separate out the player and the money.

Do you hate this move because it is Jackson or because of the anticipated contract?

To me it must be the former.

Because we are paying Orakpo $11M for this season after 10 sacks in 16 games.

Jackson over his career has been a more consistent producer than Orakpo for his team.

They are about the same age, etc.

Maybe I am mistaken but I think if Jackson had been our #1 pick in 2009 instead of Orakpo and he put up the kind of numbers here he did in Philly most people here would be in favor of keeping him on the franchise tender.

To me it's the contract. I would want to be able to get out of the Desean business after 1 year without being crippled by the cap. I think the talent is there, it's his conduct that worries me.

It's a combination of both. He's a risk, evidenced by the fact that a division rival didn't want to keep him despite his production. On top of that our team under this owner has a habit of jumping at the shiny toys without looking at the big picture. THIS has the potential to be the signing you fear Orakpo could be.

I don't see more consistency from Jackson. He's been slightly healthier, but he also has a history of contract disputes, missing team meetings and being a general pain in the neck. Oh yeah, and his team just cut his ass.

Absolutely. Because he'd be our player. I'd much rather keep our own guys.

Anyway, I'm not against signing Jackson entirely. I just don't want to pay him Josh Morgan money. :)

Sounds more like the 'wooing phase' has wrapped up and negotiations may now be in progress...
 
Based on my feeling of foreboding this morning as I got out of bed, I'm about 99.9% positive we sign Douche-an by the end of the day.

I don't hate the move, I hate the uncertainty around it.

He was cut, and someone leaked the story about close relationships with gang members.

He's also a quality #2 WR that just hit the market and there will be demand for him. He fills a need we currently don't have filled.

I don't know what fair market value for Desean Jackson is. If it's 10 million, and we check into him and find nothing awful, then fine pay 10 million. If it's 7, then 7. I'll only be angry about the contract if fair market value is 7 and we pay 12. I thought we were done doing deals like that and paying huge mark ups on guys, but who knows.

If we don't sign him then I wont fret - he has baggage and is likely demanding top dollar, I can understand not signing him.

If we do sign him then it better work out. Unfortunately I don't have a crystal ball :\
