Could it be Tua?

I keep seeing the logic that "If people think you will take Tua, they will offer more!". Generally, if a team wants a guy, they aren't going to trade away their ability to get him. That's what you usually hear about drafting and trades, is that it's a matter of getting the guy before the people that want him have a chance to grab him.

If we are wanting our pick value to go up, the useful thing would be the Lions desire to be outspoken. The only thing we would want to talk Tua up for is if we actually wanted Burrow, and were trying to get Cincinatti to take Tua instead.

I fail to see how the Redskins talking about wanting to take Tua is going to entice trades with the Redskins.

Well - you aren't going to get ANY trade offers if a team is completely unconvinced you would ever take him. So, at least sowing the seeds of doubt in the minds of teams that really covet him is necessary. And to respond to what you feel doesn't make sense about it, I think the idea is to a) convince a team or two that you absolutely might draft him, and then b) that only a King's ransom in picks might dissuade you from actually drafting him.

Teams will always count on a lot of this stuff being pure poker face bluffing. But the goal is to keep them from being absolutely certain about it. And it's not just about making them think we'll draft him - it's about selling how desirable a player he is, so that the risk of another team leapfrogging them in a trade up is more likely.

To clarify, it isn't that I don't get the logic I see people using...I've just never seen that logic be used by the teams in the draft. I don't recall any time a team, in trying to get somebody to give them more for a pick, threatens to take the player everybody would want to trade with them for. Maybe this is truly what they are doing, and maybe this is the time that logic will in fact be used successfully.

I only ever really recall trades being done with a team that wasn't going to pick the guy already, before another team who needed him traded with them. And outside of doing due diligence, I don't really see the Redskins giving any special attention to Tua, so maybe somebody will decide they are worth trading with. Lots of permutations, but I'm definitely on the bandwagon that thinks Chase Young is our best bet either way
