BREAKING NEWS: Redskins to lose $36 Million in Cap Space

They asked for it and got it. They crossed the two most powerful owners in the league and tried to do it under the table - and illegally. The NFL and Goodell is about to be humiliated if something doesn't give.

If what you are saying is correct, Goodell should be fired. What a disaster for the league.

Redskins and Cowboys joining forces?

Saw this POV on PFT, thought I'd share.....

If these teams are going to be penalized for dumping salaries during a year with NO CAP, what about the teams that ignored the salary floor? I found these numbers.

Team 2010 Salary
Kansas City Chiefs $79 million
Tampa Bay Buccaneers $79 million
Jacksonville Jaguars $81 million
Cincinnati Bengals $85 million
Arizona Cardinals $91 million
St. Louis Rams $92 million
Buffalo Bills $98 million

If you’re going to enforce a salary cap during an uncapped year, shouldn’t you also enforce the salary floor?

Were these teams warned that they better spend the same minimum as a capped year? I don’t see how one if worse than the other. There’s a cap for a reason as there’s a floor for a reason. It sure wasn’t as if the Cowboys and Redskins went out and bought up all the talent….

Florio, in his last two paragraphs in the latest entry at his site hints at the strong case that the Redskins and Cowboys have - and he knows it. Florio is a lawyer too.

Hmmmm, good point Dead Money. The league has stepped in it big time.

I don't often recommend this, but go read the post on PFT that BB referenced. Goodell has screwed himself here. It actually may be fire-able. There is no way the NFL can extricate themselves from this without losing serious face.

Not sure why they thought Jerry and Dan would just bend over and take it.

The league already hates both owners... its about to get worse.

Like I said, wait for the other shoe.

It doesn't matter. If the league tries to push this through, an injunction will be forthcoming before the new season begins. The NFL risks collusion charges and the involvement of thirty teams. The anti-trust exemption goes out the window.

So yes, lawyers for Jones and Snyder have called the bluff. Get it settled quickly or lose it in a way that the league has been fighting to keep for decades.

Its not that the skins and pukes hav a strong case, its that the league has NO case. we follows the rules to the letter, submitted all contracts to the league following the rules and bylaws in place at the time, the league doesnt get to retroactively apply a penalty.

This is NOT the same as elway and davis, those contracts were illegal under the rules, they deferred money and classified it as personal services AFTER the players were no longer playing to avoid cap numbers, we just cut or restructured guys under the rules.

Danny release the lawyers, defer the cap penalty to next season and sign all the best free agents. you have money, screw the league, sign everyone ! lol

WTF is Goodell thinking here?

I thought it was bizarre and ill-advised enough to decide that creating a media feeding frenzy over NFL 'bounties' (why not handle it quietly and decisively?). But trying to stick a red-hot poker up the ass of 2 of your league's most financially successful teams on the eve of Free Agency under, at best, dubious circumstances...seriously??

If that's not overreaching, I don't know what is... Someone needs to tell Goodell, he's not Reagan and didn't just win a 2nd term by a landslide. There is no mandate. You serve at the will of the people. And you just pissed off a lot of people in arguably your two biggest NFL markets without due cause.

Not to mention two of the most cutthroat business man ever to saunter down an NFL sideline.

Again, the NFL mafia of old guard families in the Maras and Rooneys together with the Mike Browns and Bidwills that inherited their teams from Daddy want to keep their cherished league structure that allows them to compete only by making everyone else play with one hand tied behind their backs.

And only Goodell could unite all of us this evening and show love to Dan Snyder and Jerry Jones. This is WILD!

And you know that they will go after John Mara in their own way.

My guess is that something will be mitigated to appease all sides though. But you never know with Mr. Snyder and Mr. Jones. :)

I think Goodell thought that we would just bend over and take it, I seriously doubt he thought we would fight back or even say anything publicly, I agree he is acting like he is the most popular commissioner in a long time but lots of us didnt like the way he handled the potential strike, nor do we like the obvious favouritism, the Cowpies and the Skins are the cash cows of this league, and thats when we arent even good, how hamstringing us would benefit the league is beyond me.

Snyder: 'Every time I think I'm out, they pull me back in....'

6.5 hours and counting since the news broke. Nothing in writing. If it comes, collusion charges will probably be filed and an injunction will be requested. It could be months until a new league year begins. The clock is ticking.

So, does not the NFL need to approve the trade for RGIII?

There are some chips on the table for both sides to play with.
