~* Breaking *~ - Commanders trade for Deebo Samuel

Watching those highlights you realize how many QBs Deebo has had. Not as many as Terry, but I counted Garrapolo, Lance, Purdy, and I think there was at least one more.

CJ Beathard?

True. The difference is while Jimmy and Purdy aren’t great, both are/were professional QBs.

Terry had to play with [REDACTED]. Terry would look at the QB play Deebo has had and salivate.

Deebo also had Kyle as is OC.

Terry had dumbass Jay Gruden, KOC who was told by old man Callahan to run the ball 79 times a game, Norv Jr., and then that damn fool EB.

It’s so nice we finally have a QB who doesn’t suck and an OC who isn’t a moron.

The last time we had that was 2016 with Kirk and McVay.

Deebo is one of those guys who plays faster than he times. He ran a pretty decent 40 of 4.48 at the combine, but when you watch him he looks like a 4.3 dude.

That video is for show, but there is little doubt in my mind that he will show up in shape. He’s been humbled, and he hears the noise and the doubters. I think he’ll come in with a chip on his shoulder. Jayden and the coaching staff will bring out the very best in him.

Another thing that nobody is bringing up about Deebo is his kickoff return ability. He is dangerous at it. And with another change to the kickoff rule coming this offseason I would expect him to accel at it here.

I love the new kickoff alignment. What are the changes for next season?

They are talking about all touchbacks going to the 40. Will force a lot more returns imo.
Whoa, not sure I like that idea. If you've earned a 2 point lead with 20 seconds left seems you have earned the right to kick off deep and not have to face a team that needs two completions to get into range.

Just gotta have good kick coverage and a good returner if you are the one down 2. I like that it makes the kickoff more important imo.

So kick it down inside the 5 and don't let them get a big return.

Graziano has us landing Sweat in free agency:

Josh Sweat, Edge

2024 team: Philadelphia Eagles
Free agency ranking: No. 5

2024 stats: 8 sacks, 33 pressures

i

Cardinals' offer: Three years, $43 million ($21 million guaranteed)

The Cardinals seriously need help at pass rusher. They were 28th in pass rush win rate in 2024 at 33.3%. The position has been a liability the past two seasons because of injuries to presumptive and actual starters.

Sweat, who will be 28 in March, would give instant credibility to Arizona's pass rush. He also has experience playing for Cardinals coach Jonathan Gannon, who was his defensive coordinator in 2021 and 2022 -- Sweat's best two-season stretch in sacks. He had 7.5 in 2021 and 11 in 2022. Arizona would include a $12 million signing bonus and incentives for cracking 10, 12 and 15 sacks each season. -- Josh Weinfuss

Commanders' offer: Three years, $60 million ($40 million guaranteed)

Washington needs a defensive end adept at both rushing the passer and setting an edge against the run. The Commanders have two ends who are free agents in Clelin Ferrell and Dante Fowler Jr. Sweat's length and quick get-off -- 1.55 seconds in the 10-yard split -- will appeal to Washington. Plus, he can rush inside on stunts. -- John Keim

i

Packers' offer: Four years, $72 million ($24 million guaranteed)

The Packers desperately want to put pressure on the quarterback without blitzing. That's defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley's ideal scenario. It didn't happen enough last season, and Green Bay watched Philadelphia dominate the line of scrimmage in the wild-card playoff meeting. The guaranteed money is entirely in a signing bonus, and we'd have roster bonuses in the range of $4 million to $8.5 million in March of each year of the deal. -- Rob Demovsky

i

Panthers' offer: Four years, $78 million ($46.8 million guaranteed)

The Panthers want to rebuild the defensive front the way they did with the offensive line last season. Adding an edge rusher such as Sweat -- who has 33 sacks over the past three seasons -- makes sense. Nobody on the Panthers had more than 5.5 sacks last season on a unit that ranked 29th in total sacks with 32.

Sweat is headed into his prime, and he played in a 3-4 scheme -- similar to what the Panthers used last season -- under Vic Fangio in Philly. -- David Newton

i

The decision: Sweat agrees on a new deal with the ... Commanders

Washington's offer has the highest average annual salary, and though the Packers and Panthers were offering four years, the guarantee here is better than Green Bay's and pretty close to Carolina's. Sweat just played in the Super Bowl, and Washington gives him a chance to get back there over the next three years with what the Commanders are building. -- Graziano

DK Metcalf demanding a trade now. That would be incredible.

Is he demanding it or are they putting him on the block themselves? If it's the latter it seems like it's a strange move, considering that we only had to put up a 5th rounder for Deebo. Mecalf is a couple years younger but also had only a so-so season last year. I'd give up a 2nd or 3rd for him.

I simply have to tip my cap to see that you’ve carried this over from ES.
In fairness I originally tried to use “he who shall not be named” but I already had nicknames that WR who’s nickname is a hair grooming product as “the player who we do not name from the draft we do not mention.”

I think KDawg came up with [REDACTED].

califan (I think) saw some article where he was referred to as some wrong H name (I’ve forgotten which) but I used that also.

5th round value analysis with bgo oracle

Long time ago, but Brian Mitchell was a very good fifth round pick
