All things Bourbon

Now you tell me ...

WLW
Stagg
ER17

So Stagg is even stronger huh?

Yep, the order to drink is either;

ER17-WLW-Stagg
ER17-WLW
ER17-Stagg

If you do the first order make sure you don't have any plans. You will be feeling it.

The Stagg is stronger and a little more bite because instead of corn/wheat it's corn/wheat/rye. Rye always makes for a little more kick. But damn is it a flavorful tasty drink.

The 2012 Stagg is 142.8 proof.

hof or anyone else...so this thread has really peaked my interest. I'm a wine enthusiast and go out of my way to find/consume, stock "the good stuff". I know where to go and who to trust. I also love Jack Daniels. This thread tells me there is a whole new "boorbon" (as humphrey bogart wld put it) universe to explore. any recs on where to find this upper echelon drink age?

Eagle Rare 17 is 17 years old
George T Stagg is 17 years old
William Larue Weller is 12 years old

No but I do this, I use ice in my glass.
Nice, that's what I do with my scotch.

I was told that's the sissy way to drink, and that it was looked down upon by real drinkers (i'm sure the bourbon world has those people too). Then a friend told me the most important thing is to drink it the way you like it.

I've stuck with the later, having more enjoyment with it too. Nice to see experience drinkers do it as well :)

I usually add ice as well, but sometimes I'll add a bit of water to cut it. But I didn't need to with the ER17 - the 124 proof Weller though....hmmmm.

Well, my first impression with Rowan's Creek is pretty good. Out of the gate, I like it better than the Knob Creek.

I just received my bottle of four roses it'll probably be a couple weeks before I get to crack it open but I sure am looking forward to it.

I'm also making reservations to go to a whiskey tasting at the Freakin Frog in Las Vegas in July. Sounds like a lot of fun. Here is a link to some info and the guy who does the tasting.

Info about the Tasting

The Whisky Attic where the tasting is held.

They look a little off to me. The place I've found that has the most consistent reviews to my taste is The Whisky Advocate. Link

Even with them sometimes I see it different as will anybody. Everybody's taste is a little different.
Thanks for the link. I know tastes differ, and I'll eventually identify mine. For know, I have to rely on sites like these, and more importantly, good people like yourself.

Bob - I just tried the George Stagg - HOLY HELL! Very potent, but what a great flavor. I still have the ER17 to check out, but going to be hard pressed to beat the Stagg. I think I'm in love, and I think some of it's going to end up in my vanilla porter :)

Stagg is one of the most consistently great bourbons or whiskeys that is made. It is strong but your right the flavor is special. That beer is gonna be awesome!

You will love the ER17 too. This is probably the best year ever for it. It is not as consistently good is the stagg.

My tracking says that my Bottle of WLW is halfway here as of 3 AM!. hof, You are a great guy for the contact on Dusty! Thanks again and I'll let you know my review once I get it. Also going to spring for some Glencairn glasses asap.

I'm honored to be affiliated with this sub forum of Bourbon Brothers! (and sisters just in case!)

Here is an experiment for all you guys that picked up some of the good stuff. Get yourself 2 glasses, in one pour some of the good stuff, in the other pour your old go to bourbon. Now sit back relax a have a few pulls of the good stuff, and right after take a sip of your old bourbon. You will be surprised of the differences you can taste.

I will try that next week...I've got a bottle of maker's 46 in the cupboard.
