I was listening to Galdi this morning, and he didn't provide a metric, but he said that the Bears stacked the box a lot and dared Jayden to beat them with his arm + a non-stellar group of receivers. Which he kindof did. Daniels was 19/26 for 211 yards and 3 TDs. That's 8.1 yards per attempt, 11.1 yards per completion and a 73% completion rate. 1 INT on passing plays, that's not great. But generally, we didn't lose because we didn't run the ball enough.
Comparatively, we had 31 carries for 124 yards, or 4 yards a carry. However, 10 of those carries were by Daniels. Bill had 17 carries for 61 yards, 3.6 average. Lane, McNichols and Samuels had 4 combined carries for 11 yards, though that's misleading because 7 of those yards were 1 carry on a carry by Lane. Basically, Bill was the running game, and it was "meh." Part of the reason was the Bears were keying on the run and forcing Daniels to beat them with a depleted WR corps. Which, again, he almost did.
But we made one more mistake than we could overcome.
For the "run the ball, then run some more" folks, if your opponent is stacking the box to stop the run, you don't run into that, you make them pay for it. Running into it would be a very Scott Turner thing to do. And an even more Jay Gruden on first down thing to do. Hell, if the defense left the 2 outside WRs uncovered and put 11 guys on the LOS, Jay would still have called the same running play for 0 yards for 4 years. But I digress.
I also think they need to run the ball, however if the opponent is taking that away, they're giving you something else, and you have to take what they're giving you. I have no idea what Dallas will try to do this week. Even with a depleted WR corps, we should be able to move the ball. If they stack the box to stop the run, even with our current WRs, we should be able to pass "ok." If they play more neutral, we should be able to run the ball.
