I wonder if there's any advantage at this point for Terry's side to wait after Cinci signed their mega contracts. Not sure there's anyone else upcoming to reset the market even higher.

If I am Terry or his representatives now that those Cincinnati deals have been finalized the field is clear to maximize his earnings potential. Smart move on his/their part.

Daron Payne is a contract we are carrying, plain and simple.

He’s a mid-tier starting player being paid as if he is the focal point of the defense.

Given his pre and post contract season stats he’s the prototypical guy you don’t fall in love with because the ensuing marriage is rarely happy.

We have had other guys like Stubblefield that pulled the same thing.

In his case he had 15 sacks inside but SF decided not to resign him.

Should have been a caution for other teams but not Washington.

I'm not sure they want to free cap space, though. Freeing cap space means pushing it to future years. They might want to take the hit this year so the big part of McLaurin's contract is out of the way and doesn't correspond to the beginning of JD5's next deal, assuming he doesn't regress, which would potentially be north of $80m AAV.

They actually just did that with Deebo, by restructuring, they eliminated the void year and moved the entirety of the cap hit to 2025 so if they want to cut ties with Deebo after this year, there is nothing on the books.

Not that I'm arguing against extending McLaurin. But I don't think it would be to free up cap space. It might be to accelerate it and pay for it now.

Gallup retired last offseason before the start of training camp. He had signed a one-year contract with the Raiders just months before that. He will now join the Commanders in hopes of securing a spot on the 53-man roster this upcoming season. The former third-round pick totaled 158 receptions for 2,457 yards and 13 touchdowns during his first three years in the league but hasn’t been the same since a torn ACL ended his 2021 campaign. In his final two seasons, Gallup posted a meager 73-842-6 line across 31 games. He reunites with Dan Quinn, who he spent three seasons with during their stint with the Cowboys, and joins a thin receiver room behind Terry McLaurin and Deebo Samuel. He’s not a lock to make the roster but could provide good depth as a WR3/WR4 if he can regain some of his old form.

I honestly think Luke has a lot to offer as a 3rd or 4th receiver. A full off season and I think he shows up.

For the vet minimum and little to no guarantees? There is basically no risk in this move, you can release him and it basically cost you nothing... if he is anything near what he was, it's a good move, if not? C'est la vie

True, legit leadership. I don't think Jayden's style is that rah-rah, loud, some would say "put on" or exaggerated style. All of the essential elements of true leadership are present. For the first time in a long time, I tell my kids that there is a sports player they can look at for some hints on doing good things... I specifically talk about his work ethic, but man, I personally just really connect with his character too.
