We also didn't have a second receiver that scared anyone.

Daniels options for most of the year were limited Terry and Zack Ertz.

Teams doubled Terry and then loaded up to stop Brian Robinson.

The offense did fairly well without that second or third threat at WR and a solid ground game until Biadasz and some of the other OL were injured and missed some starts or were playing well below 100%.

That's when our lack of depth really showed and the run game slowed to a crawl and we weren't moving anyone off the ball.

As others have indicated, trading for Tunsil means that Brandon Coleman who is a good athlete and 100% effort guy can move to another position along the line where he will likely be much more effective.

So, that's making two positions better with one trade move.

I still think this team signs a veteran OG this offseason, most likely after the draft when we see how our board develops.

I see potentially 3 new starters on the OL ( not counting Cosmi who will return during the year).

My preference would be to replace Wylie as the RT. He's 31 and isn't the strongest at the point of attack.

Best outcome would be for Coleman to take over and run with that spot at RT.

It's easier and cheaper to find a guard to bridge the gap inside.

I am not sure our coaching was always great, and I am also pretty sure there were significant chunks of the season where defenses knew we were passing. I think that's true for most teams. It's kind of easy to see when a team will run the ball. After a series of first downs by passes for instance, on 2nd and short is another time.
 
There are a lot of proven older rotational pass rushers out there we could sign on a 1 year deal. I think Zadarius Smith is the guy I go for out of the bunch
 
Daniels skill profile and mobility make the OL's job easier and they don't have to protect the way the Rams OL has to protect Stafford.

That said, we finally have a player on the OL that is recognized by all including our division opponents to be one of the best at his position.

The way I look at the line now is that you have Tunsil and Biadasz that were starters on playoff teams before they came to Washington and both are still in their primes.

We have a former #2 pick in Sam Cosmi that is an above average guard and starter who is injured but should be returning at some point during the season. At 27 he's another player just entering his prime.

We have Brandon Coleman, 24, a second year player with good athleticism and size who now seems set to embark on a new journey either at LG initially in place of Cosmi or at RT as a starter in his own right.

Those are the players I feel pretty comfortable about at this point as starters on the field.

Group 2 (which I consider borderline starters/capable depth):

Nick Allegretti is a player that has been a spot starter at points of his career in KC and played a full season here in 2024. I have my doubts about whether he is playing at age 28 at a level a team aiming to contend for a championship will find to be high enough over time to just pencil him in as a certain starter moving forward. To me he is always a guy to be challenged for a spot. But he is valuable as a spot starter and depth player.

We lost Cornelius Lucas so that increases the odds of 31 year old Andrew Wylie sticking around in 2025, most likely as the swing tackle (despite his paycheck - which was negotiated by the previous organization). Again, I have no problem with Wylie as veteran depth but I don't want to see him out there for 17 weeks as a starter either.

Group 3 (The rest):

These are the players I see as replacement level, guys we can literally replace by finding someone stocking shelves at Walmart.

Nick Deiter - he was exposed in 2024 when Biadasz was injured. he simply doesn't have the strength to maintain blocks and prevent penetration back to the passer.

Trent Scott - Scott had his moments I suppose. But at 31 he's a player that still has never really started that many games in the NFL and I think we need younger players to fit into those last 2 or 3 spots on the OL.

Chris Paul - Along with the departed Saadiq Charles, Chris Paul has spent awhile on the roster without really making a case that he is an NFL caliber offensive lineman. Time to cut bait on him and again find a younger, perhaps hungrier player.
 
100% effort player but one that is physically limited. We need to find a back that is more than a utility player to give this offense that final weapon for Jayden to use to effect in Kliff's system.

I am thinking a poor man's Jahmyr Gibbs.
 
McNichols is a fine replacement level backup, and his contract will be cuttable if we draft someone talented (very very high likelihood starting right from 1.29 and running through the entire draft until we take one, imo)
 
this guy was an unsung hero for us.

he won 2 games we might not have won otherwise against Carolina and Dallas and that allowed us to win 12 games and get a better seeding for the postseason.

plus he really did WIN those games. he wasn't merely handing off after the team got a lead they sat on.
 
Yep, I remember that Eddie was out of action for awhile in Chicago and might not be coming back to the NFL because of injuries.

Glad to see he was able to get back on the field in 2024 for all 17 games, starting 10.

But the roots of it all started with Snyder and Allen before Rivera arrived. They’re all incompetent.

We needed it to get as bad as it did for Snyder to sell though so it’s fine. All served a purpose in the end.

Fair enough but I’m still not over it. Trent Williams is one of the best I’ve ever seen. Hall of Famer for sure.
 
So it seems to me they are treating FA much like they did last year. Maybe a few less of the extreme leaders like Wagner and Ertz, but 1-2 impact guys and then fill a lot of holes and fill depth. Seems to fit with the desire to then build the positions long term with the draft.
