2024 - Way too early draft thread

There are a lot of highly talented guys on that team who have been on the injury report this year. McAffery is one of the best over-all RBs in the game. Deebo is one of the most versatile "big" WRs out there. Kittle is arguably one of the Top 3 TEs playing. And I won't even try to name all the big-play guys on that defense.

They are undefeated when Williams plays and winless when he doesn't.

Williams has always been a big tough capable LT, even these past few years. I think the losses coming on the road against Buffalo, KC, and Philly may have more to do with those 3 losses though :)
 
The important takeaway is that Shanahan built the line and has the receivers, including the TE, to help Purdy be a success as a young starter.

If Purdy were here in Washington with this line, set of receivers and OC I don't think his stats would look anything like they do now.

One lesson to take from the 49ers - they went up in the draft to take a 'franchise' passer in Trey Lance and the move backfired massively.

If it had not been for the fortunate selection of Purdy in Round 7 of the draft, SF would be in some real trouble, having given up all those draft picks for him and McCaffrey.

The thought that a team has to go up and get a top 5 pick at QB to be successful is not always the right one.

2020 was the last year I can remember where there were 3 picks in the top 10 at quarterback - Burrow, Tua and Justin Herbert - and they all turned out to be very productive pros.

SF's 3 losses this year are @Browns, @Vikings, and home to the Bengals.

There's a reason why my mood is currently 'Steve Spurrier Lips'.

 
The performance of this team after the Seattle game reminds me of the Spurrier era.

Seems to be a rudderless ship with no direction forward. There are no players stepping forward to make a case for a major role in 2024.

The secondary players as a group are as bad in performance as that of an expansion team with castoffs and late round picks.

The fact there are a number of high and middle round picks in this group says to me that someone in the front office is sleeping late on draft day.
 
The Arizona win is big. They play Chicago in a few weeks. Hopefully no tie. Arizona has a much higher sos than us.
 
Is it bizarre to anyone else to see Williams and Scherrf on the field this late in the year? I could swear by game ten they were always on IR.

I think Trent has missed some time this year. I know San Fran is really good, but I don't follow them much at all.
 
Correct. Trent missed 3 games earlier this season.

Scherff has started every game since his move to Jax. Honestly, this sort of thing has me questioning both our medical teams and our strength & conditioning programs.

I've been questioning the quality of those things plus the medical facilities/equipment at the park since Gibbs 2.0. There are things that teams aren't capped on, like the most cutting edge and modern medical/training/recovery facilities in the league. I remember I think Cooley saying that he didn't use a cold tub for a lot of his career. Well, what's stopping ownership from setting up a portable building at the park that is just a row of cryosaunas for all of camp and practices? Shit, I'd bring in an army of yoga instructors to help build more flexibility and acupuncturists to help with recovery.

Oh they are much more advanced than that!

They actually have mercurochrome,methiolate and Absorbine Jr in the medicine cabinet out at Ashburn along with a tub of Vicks Vapo Rub.

Nothing's too good for our team!

Just walk it off. Or as my Gym Coach said when I chipped my kneecap playing basketball in 11th Grade.... "You know what we do to horses who break their legs? We shoot them."
 
Snyder only spent money on the visible things like signing 30 year old name players and producing cheerleader calendars because at least early on in his stint it mean increased fan spending on merch.

The behind the scenes stuff - facilities quality and management, number of college and pro scouts, player medical treatment, etc. were all handled in the 'lowest price is the way to go' manner.

At one point the Patriots in their prime run had 16 scouts working for Belichick, while Washington had 5 scouts reporting in to the front office.

No wonder we didn't come up with that many surprises in the draft.

Often people could look back 3-4 years and see that Washington only had 1 or 2 players remaining from a draft where we had 9-10 picks.

another example of something a team can spend on without a cap. I imagine part of bringing in an analytics guy like Eugene Shen weeks ago was to set up whatever system they want with from scouts and other outlets. At this point for college and current NFL players. You know they want to know everything to how many games they played in, snaps, time of playing surface, weather, injuries, etc etc. All that information that would used to determine if a guy makes it to the final decision stage.
 
As of this writing, we have the #4 pick in the draft. The euphoria over this online is mind-bending.

If the Lions beat the Bears, the Texans beat the Jets, and the Packers beat the Giants, we will have the #7 pick by midnight Eastern on Monday.

Just to be contrarian, I started looking at teams further back in the draft order. There are 4 teams at 5-7 (the Saints, Bucs, Raiders, and Chargers) - all of which have a weaker SOS than our Commanders.

Now, it isn't all bad news because the Bucs and Saints have a game against each other left and both have a game left against the Panthers. The Chargers and Raiders also play each other again. So I figure at least two of these teams wins at least a 6th game.

However, with games against the Rams and Jets coming up after our bye week, if we were to win one of those, that current #4 pick could become the #9 or #10. Win both and...well...you get the idea.
 
We definitely can’t control how the other teams play out the string, but keeping RR ensures our best effort with the “tank”.

It’s really sad that I have gotten to this point because I have always loved RR…
 
Just for the insight to the professionals… Sikkema states we should prioritize Harrison behind QBs and ahead of Tackles.
