2024 Roster Updates

I guess Peter’s thought this guy must have been far and away the best to come available and was afraid another team would swoop in and trade for him.

Whoa!

This makes me sad., considering he was a first round pick just two years ago and that their trading him to a division rival. Dotson really must have shown them something in a negative way.

Shocking move.

He’s a blown pick. I think that’s good value for him. Now are they going to make a move for a #2 WR or ride it out with what we have and address it next offseason?

Some are saying this is a move in anticipation of trading for Aiyuk. To me, the lack of compensation and the fact that we traded him to a division rival makes it feel like Peters and Quinn consider offloading Dotson addition by subtraction.

I watched the latest Mic’d Up featuring Dotson this morning. He didn’t seem to have any juice in his demeanor.

His ‘drip may have been swaggier’ but his attitude seemed very low octane.

I just like how decisive this Front Office is and they aren’t afraid of making mistakes. If you aren’t producing now you aren’t going to be on this roster long. They make some mistakes but at least we aren’t hanging on to guys forever based on potential.

Let’s face it…if a third year first round selection can’t beat out Olamide Zaccheaus that’s a problem.

Thrilled to see a decisive front office.

Sad to see Dotson not work out. I was excited to see what he could do with Daniels and Kingsbury.

Remember when the pick we traded that became Chris Olave turned into Jahan Dotson, Brian Robinson, Sam Howell, and Cole Turner?

Crazy how times have changed. By opening weekend, Brian Robinson might be the only piece left on the roster.

At least they got 1 stud out of that deal. If the team wins a SB in the next few years Rivera should get a ring.
In case anybody was wondering why he's not here anymore...

Chase Young
Jamin Davis
Jahan Dotson
Emmanuel Forbes

4 years of 1st round picks completely wasted.

You're being kind to exclude Haskins. All those guys had a fatal flaw that wasn't evident when drafted. At least by the previous Skins brain trust (oxymoron).

When it came down to it for Dotson, he's just not durable enough for the slot or fast/big/strong enough for the outside. An NFL player for sure in the right offence, but a 3/4 WR.

And outside of Young, all of those picks were almost universally seen as reaches at the time they were made. Better players were available and they chose guys that they saw something in, but others saw better options.

Emmanuel Forbes is next. Here's a guy taken in Round 1 that on the field looks like a Day 3 draft pick.

Jamin Davis seems to have the best chance of the former high picks to stick with the club. Evidently he not only has shown well physically but has exhibited the attitude that he WANTS to be here.

That makes a big difference to a new staff.

I am not sure Dotson had the same demeanor or positive attitude that the other WRs did.

Dotson and a 5th for a 3rd and 2 7s is about as good as is to be expected . He has talent with no drive.

Only quibble… a 7th rounder is not most likely a special teams contributor. Very few 7th round picks make rosters and they are lucky to make the PS. So in reality, no one should be upset by spending one on a kicker imho.
Sure, and agree. Actually, you are amplifying my point.

The way I look at it:
1st round: Start immediately, should be an impact player
2nd - 4th rounds: Start soon-ish (that's up to interprestation), solid contributor. ** Teams who do well in rounds 2-4 have solid to good rosters.
5th - 7th rounds: Backups and Special Team Players, and you hope you get lucky a few times and one turns into a real contributor or an impact player. But the odds of that are low.

This is why from the 5th on, if you're picking a specialist, I'm ok with that. You're getting a special teams player, which might be what you were getting anyway. I will concede, I prefer not to pick a specialist in the 5th, but in the 6th or 7th? Eh, go for it.
