
I agree with your overall point, but this is a significant exaggeration. Payne probably doesn't make a lot of GMs top twenty list at his position. So for him to be the 2nd highest paid guy at his position - EVER - and get $60 million guaranteed, that goes well beyond what good players get. I don't know if it's a mistake or not, I'll give them the benefit of the doubt on that. But it's a ton of money to pay a guy with his resume to date, even in light of an ever increasing salary cap.Every good player is going to be "the highest paid whatever he is" when he re-signs. That status lasts for all of five minutes.
