2021 Roster Updates

This may be more about their confidence being shaken in him. Maybe more so by the two missed XPs, but he's only missed 2 FGs all year and is tied for 8th in the league in FG %. His two missed were from 40-49 and over 50.

I don’t think Collins is a fit on this team. I think he is a leftover from a philosophy of sign the biggest name and it will fix everything. But as MikefromOH pointed out, there are a lot more implications to cutting him. The Team is kind of stuck with him right now.

I have little doubt.

That's why - if you're sending a message, he's the guy you cut. You cut him because there ARE implications. It would say 'if Landon Collins can get cut....'

I agree with that, but I’m not a coach and not responsible. I just know in recent memory, that’s only worked for one guy, Bill Belichick. He’s been doing it for 20 years and it hasn’t worked every time for him either. But his track record shows that overall it did work. Other coaches don’t usually take those chances and just stick with who they are stuck with.

If they had signed a guy with a positive track record, I'd have no issue with this. They signed a random with worse career stats than Hopkins. I hope they get lucky - I really do. But I suspect I'll look smart on this by season's end.

There are cap implications with cutting Collins that aren't there with cutting Hopkins and I'm sure I don't understand them all.

However, cutting Collins would be a really clear statement. Cutting Hopkins is equivalent to using a Band-Aid to stop the bleeding after an amputation.

I'm still not sure who we replace Collins with. I know he was out last year, but we don't seem to have those same players or energy

They must have watched the recent Jaguars film. 😉

I figured if this was going to happen, this might be the week. While Dustin was not perfect vs. New York and Atlanta, they won. The organization could easily spin the decision this week because after the Hopkins miss vs. KC, the entire game went south - an easy scapegoat for them. This was simply a desperation move on the part of the team that did not take the long term success of the team into consideration.

Dallas has a 3 game lead in the division after only 6 contests. There is a very slim chance of catching them. This was as perfect a situation as any to let Hopkins work through his issues and see if you have got a long term solution at the position.

God forbid we make changes at other positions where guys are actually hurting us practically every series they step on the field. After all, that would just magnify the overall weakness of our depth.

I have not had much in terms of criticism for Rivera since he has been here. I fully disagree with this change though.

He's not the same WR he was. People say he is, but he's really not. My opinion.

What's his contract look like, too?

He has been the same for a while. Huge downfield play and then disappear. He's been like that here, Tampa, and now in Hell A.
