2021 Draft Thread - Officially pick 19th - 1st post updated with picks

The rubber is going to hit the road in April.

Supposedly, there will be a run on quarterbacks in the first round. Then another source said wide receivers will be a big draw. Now it's offensive linemen.

I think what we are seeing is that this a good draft to be at #19 as a franchise player at one of several positions is likely going to be available.

That's why I am not now of the mind to trade that #1 pick for anything other than a package for a TRUE franchise quarterback.

Derrick Carr does not qualify. Neither does Sam Darnold or many of the names being floated out there of guys who are or may become available.

If the team wants to spend a #2 pick to bring in a guy who is getting a second chance like a Darnold or a #3 for a guy like Mariota that's fine.

But a #1? No thank you.

If we dont get Curtis Samuel in free agency and go OT in the first.. if this guy is there in the 2nd.....
 
One thing I agree with is Zach Ertz at 29/30 should be a key target for us in free agency if/when he is released. He would be the perfect guy to come in and give Washington true strength down the middle of the field, which opens things up for everyone else.

In watching Ertz for the past 7-8 years in the NFC East I really never saw a Giants, Dallas or Washington team shut him down. He always seemed to be able to get open and make plays especially in the red zone.

Teams like the Eagles, Dallas and Green Bay are going to have to jettison some veterans to make the 2021 cap limits and we should target a player or two that could really help us.

THIS is a serious guy to watch later in the draft



3 weeks ago he was rated as a 6th or 7th.. i'm seeing him as high as the 4th now. If we don't make a move at WR early in this draft and he's there when we're on the board at 4, we absolutely could take him.

For some reason when I see folks talk about 'sleeper' receivers that can be had late in the draft I recall the case of Marko Mitchell.

There were folks that swore he was going to be the next big thing for this offense and he never really sniffed an NFL field when the regular season came around.

Receivers are along with quarterbacks the hardest positions to predict success in the NFL.

A guy can be 6'2 and have 4.4 speed and leaping ability and then bust out in the league and be gone in a year or two.

That's one reason I am in favor of using free agency to find a #2 receiver to pair with Terry McLaurin for the next 3-4 years. We need another weapon on offense for the TBD quarterback to throw to and while Terry and Antonio Gibson have stepped up to be cogs in the wheel it would be nice to sign a player we KNOW can come in and play with no questions asked.
 
I'm not advocating a 6th round pick be our number 2. I want AT LEAST 1 top tier WR in free agency but while it's the hardest to predict... it's also the position that you have the most of on the field the majority of the time. We could add 4 wrs this off-season and I would not be upset about it.
 
I would consider signing of a #2 wide receiver with bona fides in the league and the addition of Zack Ertz as a pass receiving TE as a productive haul for the offense, along with what we may be able to land in the draft as players we like fall.
 
I don’t see any way why the Eagles would strengthen a division rival by doing that trade when there are probably 10 or more other teams they could make a deal with.

19. Washington Football Team: Christian Darrisaw, OT, Va. Tech
WFT could really use a quarterback, but we’re not sold that it goes all-in on Mac Jones after whiffing on Dwayne Haskins just two years ago. WFT needs help up front too, and the 6-foot-5, 315-pound Darrisaw was a very solid, frequent starter for the Hokies.

Would much rather have Derrisaw but Walter football has us mocked to take this CB, Jaycee Horn. Gotta admit I don’t hate the idea

 
Washington gets ZERO compensatory picks... which was kind of to be expected
