2011 Tropical Weather Updates

Happy hour starts in 5 minutes
The first clouds rolled in a couple of hours ago here in Virginia Beach. No rain, and a slight breeze is all we have otherwise so far.

My folks live in Williamsburg also Ren. They are coming to out tonight or tomorrow to stay with us. My wife's folks live in Wburg and they are staying to brave it out. I think they will be OK. Isabel was so damaging last time because the ground was already somewhat saturated, so the water had no place to go, plus the trees came up out of the ground easier because of the soft earth. Conditions aren't quite the same this time, I think folks will be fine.

And yes, if they live in Ford Colony or Two Rivers, they will be fine. ;)

They are in Colonial Heritage. They are most worried about the food in their freezer going bad if the power goes out. haha
 
First rain bands rolling into VB now, and the wind has started to kick up a bit - about 15-20 mph right now.
 
Extreme, stay safe. News reports say LAFB reported winds of 38 mph. Getting some heavy rain. Lights have been blinking.

You too brother, things are starting to go downhill quickly right now, it's changed dramatically in the last couple of hours. It's not too bad yet, but you can feel it getting there.

Blast it! It works for me since it's on his Facebook link. He didn't post it on youtube or anything so I am not sure how to link it here.

Essentially, it does not look too bad where he is, but the eye had not quite reached him yet. I don't know what the wind speeds are at this point but from what I am seeing it looks like he was only dealing with 40-50 mph winds when he made that video earlier.
 
Probably like Extreme, don't need a link...getting to experience the storm up close and personal.

If anything bad happens...you can tell the world I had clean underwear on. :)
 
The water is coming up fast here now. Winds have been gusting pretty hard. Sheds have come down all over the neighborhood, a very large tree branch was flying through the air about 50 feet up, we've lost almost all of our branches, but not our trees, which is very odd. We also have a very large window in our kitchen that has sprung a massive leak right above an electrical outlet. Things aren't looking too good right now, but we're doing fine. Still have power, but they said the worst of it for us is still 6-8 hours out. Right now I have my PC hooked up to the tv, because we lost satellite hours ago. WTKR is broadcasting around the clock on podcast though, so we've been able to watch it just like tv. I took 2 pics so far, it's the canal behind my house starting to come up. The canal on a normal day is no more than 18 inches wide. As you can see from the pics, it's much worse than that and deteriorating rapidly.

I am watching WVEC. We are still about an hour before worse hits hear. I know work will be flooded as tide should be 8 ft above normal in. Poquoson. Stay safe Extreme.

It has been raining since 11am here - about two inches has fallen and we are expecting 12 to 15 - an isolated place or two could hit 20. The sandbags are in place and now it is a waiting game for the next 24 hours.

By a miracle still have power. Got plenty of red wine just in case. My yard is covered with limbs and debris.

Thanks a lot for the offer buddy, it means a lot. I think now that the ye is passing to the east of us, we should be ok unless something dramatic happens. We aren't letting our guard down yet by any means, because the winds are beating the hell out of things, but I think we've seen the worst of it. We have bad leaks everywhere, but unless we have some serious structure failure, we should be ok.

Again, to everyone who has messaged me and such to offer a place if needed, thank you so much. I can't express how much it means to me and my family. We should be ok, we still have power (I've never been so thankful for underground lines) and with the eye starting to pass, it should start to gradually ease up.

This just goes to show that this place is just as much like a family and brotherhood as it is a fan site. You are all awesome in my book. I will have plenty of pictures up tomorrow when I go out to survey the dmage and take my chainsaw to some trees around the neighborhood. I heard so many trees go down, I just hope everyone is ok. We can't get out of our cul de sac except on foot right now, so I feel bad not being able to help right now if someone needs it, so hopefully everyone is ok. We've been in touch with most of our neighborhood on the phone, and everyone seems to be ok so far, so hopefully it holds up.
