Re: Sinnott
Lots of talk about him and last week Kliff was asked about him directly. He said Sinnott was exactly where they wanted him to be but that he was basically stuck behind a likely HoF player at the position so wasn't getting the onfield reps.
Well, a lot has changed since that interview. I expect Sinnott will see a fair amount of game time starting this weekend and we will get a much better idea of whether the young man is our next starting TE or just a bit player.
I know he has made some mistakes and had his name called for more wrong reasons than right. At least so far.
However, he also caught every single ball he has been targeted with in his almost 2 years. Granted, small sample size, but he has caught them all.
Understand, I'm not calling him the next Travis Kelsey. I'm not even saying he will be the next Jason Reed or Chris Cooley.
I'm just cautioning against saying he is a bust quite yet.
Kliff is full of BS.
If you have a starting caliber player you spent a #2 pick on, you find a way to get him on the field. Whether it is including some two tight end sets on offense on passing downs or giving split reps - we have seen this before in the NFL.
What we have seen here is COMPLETE ABSENCE of a player from the offense. How far are you going to go in getting Sinnott on the field to evaluate whether you want to extend his contract? We are half way through his rookie deal and he still doesn't have a body of work to even BEGIN to go by.
And as far as the Ertz comment goes - give me a break. Ertz is 35 years old and at this point of his career is no longer a down the field threat and is only average if that as a blocker.
A strong head coach like Andy Reid or Belichick would find a way to get a faster, younger player on the field in a platoon or share of some kind if that is necessary. I would say that based on some very solid but hardly pro bowl numbers, that a coach like Belichick may very well not have brought back a guy like Ertz in 2025.
What I think is Kliff Kingsbury likes Zack Ertz and has had Ertz playing with Daniels so exclusively since Day 1 that now Daniels depends upon that safety blanket. What the head coach and the staff SHOULD have been doing on a team coming off 3-14 was aggressively getting younger and faster players on the field as quickly as possible and help form a synergy so that Daniels grows up WITH Sinnott and other recent draft choices not on 35 year old players that are going to be in their rocking chairs next year.
So now the short-sighted Commanders OC and HC are left without Ertz most likely for good with the ACL.
The team is going to have see what Yankoff and Sinnott do coming down the stretch in 4 games where the offense is limping to the finish line, literally.
This is no way to develop the type of team the Chiefs built up or the Patriots before them.
This is the way you make decisions so EVERY season sees the team make 20-30% turnover and re-start over and over again.
As the Head Coach Quinn (like Joe Gibbs) has to be in charge of the TEAM. Yes, he's a defensive coach but he has to make decisions when the offense is not advancing in certain areas and players are not improving and getting on the field.
I mention Gibbs because he was a HOF coach known for offensive innovation.
At the same time he had to make decisions on personnel on the other side of the ball as well.
In a famous case, after the Redskins had signed Wilber Marshall and given up two #1 picks, defensive coordinator Richie Petitbon had Marshall on the strong side, rather than the weakside spot he played in Chicago.
He told Gibbs the freedom that Marshall enjoyed in Buddy Ryan's defense wasn't practical here with what we ran in Washington and this was the best place to put #58.
In the end Gibbs vetoed the move and Marshall ended up back on the weakside. A year later he was in the pro bowl for Washington.
Did Petitbon quit over it? No. Gibbs established his role as the final decision-maker and I am sure after some heated discussion that the DC accepted that.
Quinn, if Sinnott has truly come along as expected per Kliff's comments, should have told the OC to get the player on the field as we could surely use another younger threat in the passing game.
