2025 Washington Commanders Roster

Surprised by the offensive roster! Defensive roster is completely expected.

We actually kept 3 QB's? Mariota must be really hurt. I mean, 3 QB's, 4 RB's, and 4 TE's is kind of a lot. Only 5 WR's! I get it, cause nobody in the 6th slot was even decent. But 1 of those 5 (Noah Brown) probably won't be able to play to start the season and an unknown with Terry's conditioning.

We are going to be running the ball and passing out of 2 TE sets way more than normal Week 1. Which is kind of awkward given the Giants defensive strength is their front.

Not sure why Johnson couldn’t have made it to the practice squad.

I’m looking forward to having tougher cuts in the coming years. Still way too easy to get to 53 but at least we have a bunch of legit backups now.

We may still churn a spot or two depending on other teams cuts.

I agree, I think Adam needs 1 or 2 more off seasons to bring in more and more better players to compete for roster spots. Our third pre season game will be competitive with the Ravens in the future.

Hopefully, another Noah B type player that can come in and make an impact.

Ja’Corey Brooks is the only player I am worried about clearing waivers and I assume the team wants him on the PS.

I was hoping for two quarterbacks but I get the team wanting to keep 3 for insurance.
Osborn might go to minny but yeah we didn't shave much meat off the bone today.

Yeah it’s easy to forget just how godawful the roster was when he got here. Tons of progress in these two offseasons but yeah, we need another couple to really get the floor of the team up.

As for Josh Johnson, I think this shows they don’t feel like Mariota could be relied on if needed in week 1 and they didn’t want to risk exposing him. Would guess they try to get him on PS once Mariota is ready to roll.

I guess this is a result of no receiver flashing enough in the preseason. I thiough Brooks and Tay Martin had their moments, but overall the receivers disappointed. Not sure how much that had to do with them or the quarterbacks.

Man, they really must like something in Luke besides his name sake to keep him on!! Hopefully he breaks out this season!!

Luke is still young, but I think him being on the active roster is more of an indictment of every other WR we had in camp. We've had a void at WR the whole summer with Brown being out, and none of the other guys could step up. McCaffrey has had a quiet camp.

Because the teams are cutting down to 53 on one day instead of the 2 or 3 cutdowns we had in the past, there are going to be more opportunities to find players that can help the team that they may have been interested in during the draft or previous free agent cycles.

I would not be surprised to see another WR, OL or defensive end get picked up.

It seems Washington is keeping an outsized group of linebackers given the number of 2 linebacker sets this coaching staff likes to use.

I also have my doubts that after years here that Chris Paul has finally arrived as an NFL ready player who we can trust to go in for an injured starter and perform at greater than a replacement level.

People are talking about a Super Bowl. Run this year and I think it's a little premature. Give us another year or two to fill out the roster a bit more and JD will be a solid vet by then.

Unless we get lucky!? 🥰

We got lucky in a LOT of games last year, so who knows? I'll be happy to make the playoffs. Can't see a Super Bowl

With Deiter cut, who is the backup C Allegretti? Did he spend much time there in the preseason?

Initial thoughts:

  1. I'm not surprised they kept 3 QBs on the active roster because Mariota has battled Achilles Tendinitis all camp. I wish we brought in somebody other than Johnson with more upside, but here we are.
  2. Hartman to PS is a big whatever to me. They want another arm on the team, fine, but this is last go-around, probably in the NFL, definitely on the team.
  3. Somewhat surprised they didn't keep a 6th WR, they cut all of the veteran WRs. I might have thought they would have kept 6 and then cut the 6th if they found a guy they liked who gets cut.
  4. Low-key interesting: Deiter didn't make the team. That means the team has no defined backup center. I think that means Chris Paul is the backup center? That's odd. Maybe if Biadacz goes down, they slide Allegretti to Center and Wylie in at RG until Cosmi is back? This is probably the most interesting roster development to me. Ideally you'd like to have a backup center. But Deiter stunk. I do wonder why they didn't bring somebody else in to compete for backup center.
  5. Cosmi went to PUP, which is what I expected. So he'll miss at least 4 games.
  6. I'm predicting they sign a Center at some point before week 1.
  7. I think they like McNichols, but he might be the 25th player on offense to make the team. It's REALLY hard to keep 4 RBs active on gameday. He might be the one sent down to the PS if they need to sign somebody.
  8. They went with less DL than I thought they would. Only 8.
  9. Going with only 8 DL probably cleared a spot for Ale Kaho to make the team as an UDFA. I THINK he's the only UDFA to make the team unless I am missing somebody.
  10. Keeping 5 safeties seems like a lot also, but I know they like all of their safeties.
  11. Offense: 25, Defense: 25, Specialists: 3
  12. I expect somebody at LB, CB or Safety to get cut and they bring in a WR.
  13. IF Mariota proves to be healthy, they might cut Josh Johnson and bring in a WR.

I predict there will be 3 roster changes between now and the season opener. Center, WR and one TBD.

Yeah, see my note in the post right above. This is odd.

I think the answer is Allegretti, but he's going to be the starting guard for Cosmi who's on PUP. So that means they would have to put Wylie in at Guard and slide Allegretti to center.

It's possible they sign a Center.
