2025 Washington Commanders Roster

Still a bit fuzzy on why Washington traded Robinson but then had plans to feature Ekeler as the primary back given his injury history? He was hurt last year and in San Diego.

Merritt wasn't a part of the game plan against the Packers and Rodriguez has been all but invisible so far in 2025.

I hope we didn't go purposefully short at the position simply to pick up a #6 draft pick for 2026.

There have to be a couple of backs on practice squads across the NFL that can come in and be depth pieces, every year we see guys promoted to regular roster who become regular NFL players.

I think this coaching staff just leans on vets a bit too much, they were going to make Bill “earn” it after a few weeks of Ekeler starting games. I don’t think it was so much all of sudden Ekeler was the bellcow, that wasn’t the plan. Kliff panicked and we didn’t rack up enough rushing attempts to see the full extent of the rotation imo

CRod was only inactive because he doesn’t play teams and McNichols does. McNichols will get some of the passing down snaps bc he can pass protect, but CRod and Bill will get the majority of touches imo. And if Jayden is hobbled Kliff will be forced to commit to the run.

IMO Donavon Edwards on our PS can also produce how BRob would’ve if we hadn’t traded him. Our lack of run game is a Kliff problem not a “they shouldn’t have traded away BRob without a plan” problem.

This and the right side of the OL feel like the biggest problems exposed against GB. Kingsbury does not impress me as a playcaller, and his seeming inability or unwillingness to adapt to game conditions is a terrible weakness for an OC.

I think Daniels’ computer brain usually being able to identify what the defense is doing before the snap helped Kliff a LOT last year, a talented QB executing consistently is going to make most playcalling look inspired. Green Bay majors in hiding what they’re doing before the snap and that made things really tough on Daniels (who isn’t experienced enough yet to process everything in 1.5 seconds after the snap but before the pressure hit), and by extension Kliff.

I don’t think Kliff is necessarily a mirage so much as he’s not a guy that is going to scheme a mediocre QB to success. He’s no genius. He’s stubborn on certain things and even though he’s pass happy, he’s actually kind of old school in some of his passing game concepts and his stubbornness around certain things like motions and moving his skill players around in the scheme. People think because he came from college, he’s pass happy, loves screens, and can utilize a player like Deebo that he’s innovative. I don’t really agree. But what he does can work when Daniels is crushing it. We haven’t seen that Daniels much yet this year (and it might be delayed further if he’s gimpy) so the holes in Kliff’s scheme are going to show.

I truly, deeply believe that we’ll be better off if Daniels kills it and Kliff does indeed get hired away elsewhere in the next year or two. He’s a good “baby’s first OC” for Daniels because Daniels is a great processor and can make it work. But imo Kliff doesn’t really make his life easier—despite that, the continuity while Daniels gets his sea legs in the league is important. But we can do better in the future once Daniels is established as a stud, luring a true X’s and O’s genius here who can’t cut it as a HC or whatever. People will line up to work with him, I just hope we don’t stubbornly only look in-house unless the assistants we have, have grown a lot since they last had a chance to design and call plays.

Looks like Ben Johnson might be available as an OC in a couple years. ;)

I wonder when we're going to see some roster moves to make up for our two losses for the season.

This tread is for Roster and updates, not general discussion.

Please keep it on the tracks.
