I agree. After last season I thought he would be so excited to play with JD again. I truly thought he cared about the team. Scary Terry no more.
I could deal with it better if he showed up to minicamp, camp (he's under contract) and we didn't have that whining press conference. Not showing up the preseason game. The distraction he's been. And the egotisitcal driven demands coming from his own mouth -- about its not about the money but the team showing him they think as highly of him as he sees himself, and the shots at the FO, etc.
But when you add all the "me, me, me" behavior along with the ridiculous demands -- am done with it.
If it were me, I'd make him play out the season on the current contract. And tell him, he can either take the deal offered to him in the off season or they will franchise and trade him. And I'd rather franchise and trade him next off season and move on.
I don't see a "culture builder" being a player who is OK with being a distraction, who takes shots at the FO, and makes it clear as a bell that he's a mercenary -- it means nothing to him to win a SB or build a legacy in Washington, its only about the price tag.
The Tampa guys as examples. Talked about taking discounts. But even if they didn't and hit market value they came off sincere about wanting to end their career in Tampa.
We want dudes like that especially if they are the "leaders" of this team.

Why Chris Godwin spurned Patriots' $30 million offer, signed for less money with Buccaneers
The
Tampa Bay Buccaneers re-signed Godwin earlier this offseason despite a $30 million-per-season offer from the Patriots, according to
The Athletic's Dan Pompei. Godwin is on a new three-year, $66 million contract, which shows his confidence level staying with Tampa and quarterback
Baker Mayfield after winning the NFC South last season.
...Concluded they would take less, much less, to stay in Tampa."
Lavonte David: 'Mutual respect' brings players back to Buccaneers
Yes, Lavonte David has taken what is described as a hometown discount by re-signing with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for a one-year, $10 million contract with $9 million guaranteed, indicating he prioritizes staying with the only NFL team he's ever played for....
Licht pulled off one of the biggest coups of the offseason, getting receiver
Chris Godwin to return for
a significant hometown discount. The wideout
mentioned the familial aspect of the organization as one reason he didn't want to uproot his family.
For David, the relationship with the front office makes Tampa different from other clubs.
"They want to play for this organization -- an organization like that -- and it just becomes a mutual respect thing," David said

...“I’d love to retire as a Buccaneer,” David recently told WDAE (
via Pewter Report). “Getting to play in the same building my whole career like guys like Ronde Barber and Derrick Brooks, that’d be amazing. Just to walk the same hallways they walked their whole career. Especially Derrick Brooks, you all know how I feel about Derrick. Every time he comes around, my eyes light up. So, he’s definitely a guy who I kind of want to model after, just be a guy who played with Tampa their whole career and was just a staple for what they do.”
David is destined for the Bucs’ Ring of Honor, regardless of whether or not he plays elsewhere in the twilight of his career. He’s still playing at a high level, and the Bucs would have a gaping hole in the middle of their defense if they’re not able to re-sign him.
It’ll take some creative salary cap work, and maybe a little bit of a hometown discount, but don’t be surprised if No. 54 is suiting up in the only NFL jersey he’s ever known again this fall.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers hosted a press conference today, announcing Mike Evans’ new contract.

Mike Evans on re-signing with Buccaneers: “Tampa is my home.”
Mike Evans spoke with great clarity and was very upfront— Instantly articulating that a career goal for him is and has been to retire as a Tampa Bay Buccaneer.
“I obviously wanted to be a Buccaneer, and there were some things that we were working through. When you’ve played for one team for so long, you obviously think about what it would be like playing somewhere else. I have a lot of friends on other teams. It was a cool dream, but Tampa is my home – it’s where I’ve always wanted to be.
