I haven't seen anything mentioning it in here, but I think Terry was 23 when he was drafted. Most WRs are usually 21 or so.
Is there any argument to be had in the fact there's less NFL tread on his tyres than some other 30/31 year olds? Is the decline factored simply due to age? Or is it due to wear and tear from NFL seasons?
Also, he's not had any significant injuries to put extra stress on the body.
I imagine that's what he's thinking, that he's a unicorn.
The truth of it is, that he could easily have signed a new contract for a few years at a reasonable team cost. Had a chance to win a championship here while Jayden is QB. It may then be tough to watch us draft his replacement at somepoint, but I feel like his game may mature gracefully with age rather than just drop off. He may not have the speed he used to, but he'll likely compensate with skill, knowledge and wiles. Kind of like Ertz has. He'd be like Jayden's Gronk (if you know what I mean.) The guy that even though he's lost a step, is still a WR that Jayden trusts and has a connection with build on years of play time together. He could have finished his career here in Washington before gracefully retiring, being placed in our ring of fame, and been hallowed by the fanbase for years to come. There's his recognition.
Instead he's alienating the fans and putting his future with the franchise at risk for a few extra millions. Trying to hold a Front Office to ransom for a history they had no part in. Risking the fact that they'll make him play out this year, Franchise him next year, and then cut bait when he starts his eventual decline. He'll sign a veteran type contract for any team that'll have him (maybe a contender, maybe not) but his legacy in Washington will be tarnished.
