The 2025 Draft Thread

To me, positional value (including RB shelf life), the fact the RB class is deep, and the other needs we have all over the place (not to mention we probably want to garner more picks)… I too would be surprised if they go with a back at 29. But, as SilentThreat said, it’s BPA all the way, so who knows. And it takes two to tango with trades obviously…

Another thing i've tried to change my mentality about is positional pidgeonhole. I start to look at players with their actual input into the 11 on the field. The Lions got laughed at when they took Jahmyr Gibbs at 12th overall when he wasn't even the 'top' RB that we all had been hearing about all year long. That was Bijon Robinson that went 5 picks earlier, and he was the only one widely regarded as a 'first round' pick. All Gibbs has done is put up almost 3200 yards and 32 TD of offense over the last two seasons.

I've always said that there are only 3 positions I'm not willing to spend a 1st round pick on... and all 3 are Special Teamers. Long Snapper, Kicker, Punter. ANY All Pro level position player, can have a legit case made for them to be 1st round worthy... An All Pro OG is worth more to me than a 20th ranked OT. The OT is still starting calibre, but that extra level top 2 at their position is just different. If they love Henderson, do it. PERSONALLY? I really like Bhayshul Tutin, not only because of the measurables, but because of the value... But again, if Henderson is going to be an All Pro level player, pull the trigger. The added value also of a 5th year of control as you're going to be entering your contract talks with your (hopefully) elite level QB is big when it comes to a cornerstone member of your offense.

Autocorrect is always amusing. Don't know if you say "fellers" over there but I love the idea of sending the guys round (presumably with baseball bats!).
Some say it in the southern part of our country. LOL. Typo on my part. Funny how autocorrect in spelling accepted, fellers. I meant fellas and that is somewhat slang to fellows. Cheers.

Started watching him a little, not bad, good burst, hard to bring down, long legs with some homerun ability

Hopefully they don't have to use a first or second on a RB. Maybe they can find a Terrell Davis in the 6th. We'd have to win a SB if that happened.

Just watched Devin Neal and Jordan James back to back. James with more love from some of the mock drafters I follow. But I think I'd go Neal over James. I'd be happy with either in that 3rd tier of RBs, those likely going into the late 4th-5th round range. But Neal IMO has the better stop and go dynamic to his game.

I hope we take a RB sooner, ideally as part of a trade down, somewhere in the 2nd and we take one from that 2nd tier group.

Ideally dream scaping, it'd be nice to see a trade with Cleveland for our 1st and nab their #33 (2nd) and #104 (4th). Both are early picks, then trade the #33 (2nd) to SF and get their #43 (2nd) and #100 (3rd). Take EDGE/DE/LB at #43, a RB at #61, a CB at #100, trade back again at #104 (4th) into the mid 4th and pick up a pick up a 5th rounder or take S, then get Marks with our late 6th and OT with the 7th.

Addressing some of the Skattebo hate on the FA thread.;)

For starters I've read multiple times Skattebo plans to run in the individual Arizona State pro day on the 27th, but will see.

As to the idea that Skattebo will be a bust. Maybe. But I am far from on an island about him. He's got a lot of fans. PFF has him as their #3 back, and they are usually good at evaluating RBs. Maurice Drew did his own analysis and also made him the #3 back. Most draft geek types evaluate him highly.

For my taste, power runners like Skattebo and also Damien Martinez will likely be good pros.

Everything being equal, I prefer speed -- homerun hitters. But if I picked what type next I'd take -- I'd go for a power runner-tone setter type. I'd take a power runner like that over lets say a Jordan James style who plays it medium, not power, not speed, somewhere in the middle. Most of the RBs I've watched are in the middle types.

I want a guy who can either take it to the house or someone who can wear you down and set a tone. I've explained Skattebo to death so don't feel like repeating it but in short he's so physical, combined with his contact balance is so good. And what a passing weapon.

Martinez isn't quite Skattebo's level as to physicality but he has more burst than Skattebo

I get being fans of this team can sour us on power backs because we've majored in jag power backs. lol, if we were coming soon after the Riggins era that's what we'd want. Heck what was the last good power back, we've had here? Stephon Davis? It's been forever. But its not the type of running back thats been the problem, its been the actual running back IMO that's been the problem.

Kyren Williams isn't as big as Skattebo or Martinez, and isn't fast (4.65) but he's a tough runner who can break tackles. He was a handful for the Eagles in the playoffs. Robinson wasn't a handful in the playoffs because he's a mediocre back.

Not sure why people would be down on Skattebo. Dude is tough, quick, has amazing contact balance, good vision, and good patience but hits the hole hard when he finds it.

I doubt he'll last till our 3rd round pick. I'd be fine with him as our 2nd rounder.

Small chance he might have been there with a third but now that our third has been changed to a late 4th, no shot he's available at that point. Hopefully we can trade down.

SIP love your tape eval. But Cam is not going to break that tackle 2 yards past the LOS in the NFL. He is a JAG imo at the NFL level.

Will he end up a JAG, you never know. But am far from an island on Skattebo, most think he's going to be a good player. Will see. I think among other things his critics are sleeping on his ability to add to the passing game.

Because he is too slow to play the NFL game. The fact some sites list him in the top 5 RB's in this draft is laughable. Yes. He broke tackles in college. Against IFERIOR competition. Good luck when EVERY SINGLE PLAYER you are playing against is faster than you, inculding the DL

Vision-contact balance > speed as to running backs. Some strong words about laughable because basically you can clown just about every mock drafter, PFF, ex-RBs, there is a long list of clowns on this one, then.

Brian Robinson doesn't suck because he's not fast. He sucks IMO because he has poor vision.

Guys like Bucky Irving or Kyren Johnson can't come close to running like fast dudes like Isaac Gurendeno but are much better backs.

Skattebo with the 2nd best vertical in this running back group clearly has some athleticism so its not like he's some complete stiff. I assume will see the rest of it on the 27th.

As far as not doing it against good teams, how about against the best run stuffing team in college who stacked the box?

That's the other thing about him, he was the main guy, he was the featured offensive players that defenses had to stop. In BOTH the passing game and running game. IMO he's one of the the highest floor RBs in this group.

Texas defense finishes regular season with the #1 stop rate in the country

No not really. From what I have seen there are few who consider him top 5 RB in any mock. Maybe last year where there werent at least 10 guys better than him. Way too deep of a RB draft to consider Cam anything else than a fringe player. Maybe I will be wrong. Wont be the first time for sure.

I don't mean it that literally. I watch and listen to every mock drafter under the sun, and I can't think of one who is down on Skattebo. So if McShay has him at #6 instead of #5, same thing to me. I am sure I can find if I look hard enough some mock drafter who doesn't dig Skattebo. But my point is if the idea that its laughable means you I presume are VERY confident that this dude wouldn't be successful in the NFL. And I've heard to enough to know 100% that you are much more the outlier on this versus the norm.

Nothing wrong with that, I got some outlier views, too.

Yep. Thats me. Again. I might be wrong. I have missed on plenty for that past 3 decades we have been doing this game brother. But I am not picking him in the first 5 rounds.

I hear you. He ironically would be one of the few I'd easily bet on. What his ceiling is, I got no clue, but I think he will make an impact. To me he's one of the easier ones to guess.

But, I struggle with a bunch of other RBs as to guessing if they will be better than jags. The dudes that sort of fit the middle category -- not fast, not powerful but somewhere in the middle -- dudes like Jordan James, Devin Neal, Sanders, etc. The other hard ones for me are the pass catching backs -- S. Smith, L. Allen. I got some guesses on these guy but nothing where am 100% confident.

For me it is Ashton. Hampton and Henderson then everyone else. Those 3 TO ME are true franchise RB's. And I might be willing to switch to Henderson above Hampton.

LOVE Henderson. Breakaway speed. Nastiness. Everything I want from a franchise back.
