I didn't try the 1792 yet but I have one of their cheaper ones and it's pretty good. That Compass Box was really good though. It's like a highland scotch with a more fruit taste to it but I really like it.

That Heavens door one I'm not too sure about but I'll have to try it again. First taste was ok, nothing special though.

I read that the compass box spice tree is discontinued so I'll have to try to hunt that one down soon.

We visited the Barton distillery before they quit offering tours and tried a few different versions and, for whatever reason, they seem to drink hot to me...even the standard.....then I finally got my hands on the BiB version, (which I've never seen around here) and it was an epiphany. To me, it's the perfect proof for whatever mashbill Barton uses and it's fantastic. If you see one, I can highly recommend it. I have a bottle of the full proof too, which drinks very hot, but it's pretty good over a large cube or a splash.

HOF44 I just bought a couple of these from a guy in the group.....I know that they're a different animal than the bottles finished in the mizunara barrels, but given the quality of those, and the 11 year 60/36/4 MGP liquid, I couldn't resist. Have you had this one?

Maybe because we have drilled and tasted barrels out at the farm. But no way to say for sure. Also the Mizunara was a small batch not a single barrel. As in a mix of whiskey was made then put in 1 of 2 Mizunara casks he has. That’s where the barrel designation comes from.

Also lower proof <120 MGP is some of the better whiskey you can get from MGP.

Welp...that's good to know. My cheap-ass, uncharacteristically, dropped $200.00 for two bottles without trying it first. Hopefully this is a good one!

I think the Mizunara was 96% 8 year MGP and 4% 16 year Dickel. The aged like 2 years on top of that in the Mizunara barrels.

Went to a distillery in downtown San Antonio called Devils River, not far from the Alamo.

I’m no expert on cocktails as I usually just stick to beer, but this drink is pretty dang good; called a “Cold Fashioned” and made with coffee bourbon.

My wife, father and I really enjoyed the drinks along with a cigar out front listening to live music.
We went home and bought a bottle to make our own and they turned out just as good. Made a fire on the back porch and had a nice time.

That was when it was cold out, which was a week and a half ago. Now it’s friggin 85 outside. Winter is pretty much over, not a fan of sweating for 9 months out of the year lol
I kinda miss the 4 seasons
(We moved to S.A. from Baltimore 5 years ago)

Anyways if you think coffee and bourbon go together, give it a try.
The recipe calls for chocolate and orange bitters with simple syrup and orange peel.

We were thinking about watching the game in our local sports bar but we went there yesterday for some food and I had no idea that shots were 10-30 dollars each. I couldn't believe it. For instance, a shot of WT101 is 10 dollars, Woodford double oaked was 24. There was one that I never heard of for 30. Beers are 8+ each.

I guess we saved at least 100 bucks just watching it on our TV at home, which is the same sized TV anyway.

This is as close as it gets for me....it's cheap...and my bourbon connoisseur friends mock me for it...but I love it...especially out of the freezer. The mosquitoes might not be dead...just passed out drunk!

I just drink a small shot or 2, sometimes a beer.

So how difficult was it to get a liver transplant?

I assumed that it must be difficult to find a liver. Since 2022 my pancreatic cancer moved to my liver. At first it was dozens of spots all over my liver and the doctor never brought up a transplant. But the Y90 radiation killed it all, then last year only 3 spots came back. Since September there is nothing at all visibly growing.

I keep joking to my wife that's it must be the alcohol. I didn't start drinking anything at all until August. It must have scared off the cancer. 😂
