Absolutely this played a part. When the people announcing your new name look like they would rather die of gonnorhea than speak it…that tells you all you need to know about what they thought. They knew fans initial response would be negative. Even if they didn’t like the name, which clearly they didn’t it was Snyder‘s job to get people that could make it sound like the greatest thing ever. He didn’t do that…shocker. That announcement set the tone.

I did like the party at the stadium though, that was cool. They had the 1991 Video Yearbook playing in the parking lot, and we picked up some cool free stuff. I got my Redskins football signed by Brian Mitchell, Pierre Garcon, Rock Cartwright, and Chris Baker.

They brought in a branding expert. The name is going to suck and be unpopular no matter what they choose. So it’s better to allocate the resources to building the current brand then going after another, unpopular brand, and doing it all over.

Fix the uniforms first and foremost—we all agree, I think, those white jerseys suck hot ass.

Biased on the subject. Umm yeah, I’ve been a fan for 55 years. Biased is 100%. I do believe the majority of fans dislike the name and want it changed. I eagerly await evidence to the contrary. You don’t care? Cool. But many, many do.
 
Some of you wanted the name changed because Dan picked it…take some heart in that Tanya “She has a background in the fashion industry” Snyder’s uniforms will soon be changed. If eventually the only remnant of them left is that Snyder picked the name…I can live with that.

I've been a fan for 48. I grew up watching the Hogs. I cried when they released John Riggins. I cleared the house yelling at Shawn Hochuli on two, non consecutive occasions. Please, let's not turn this into a fan dick-measuring contest.

The sellouts, the increased merchandise sales. The negative voice is always the loudest.

Now, its your turn: you claim that we need get rid of Snyder's shit stain, and find a name that everyone move forward behind. Great idea. What is that name? How are you so sure that name exists? (It does, in fact exist, we just aren't allowed to use it anymore).

Fact is, the only name that would carry that banner is Redskins. And that is dead and gone.

I get you hate Snyder. When Snyder announced he was selling the team that wonderful November day, I burst into my wife's office and danced around the room screaming "He's Selling the Team! He's Selling the Team! He's Selling the Team!" While she was on a call. It's fair to say I hate Snyder, Allen, Gruden, all of them just as much as anyone else. You've also said that you would get behind any terrible name they choose, so long as it wasn't Commanders. Well the shitty name they choose is Commanders. I'm curious why you can't apply that same logic to now?

And my most important piece of evidence that the name is growing? Harris made the decision to keep it. I guarantee there was a very good reason behind that.
 
You brought up 'biased' - as if my opinion is some outlier. 63% of the fanbase surveyed BY THE TEAM in 2024 wanted the name change. You are the outlier brother. I have given a number of names previously that have much more fan support than 'Commanders'. I'm not going to 'relist' them for you. You will cite 'trademark barriers' no doubt. My response to that is that there are no substantial trademark barriers when it comes to NFL naming rights. The NFL is king. If they want a name, they will get it.

You are pulling out your fan card. You know the secret handshake and that's cool. I don't doubt you are every bit the fan we all are.

So maybe you should give your peers more than 7 hours to get over a major disappointment? Just a thought...

I am going to bow out of the convo though folks. I have strong feelings as I know a lot of you do. Doesn't matter at this point. As I have said, every fan has the right to their opinion no matter what is. Let's all give each other that grace.

I cried the day I learned that we were being stripped of the Redskins nickname.

I also cried tears of joy after Daniels's Hail Mary pass, after the game winning field goal in Tampa Bay, after the upset of the Lions, and after the loss in Philly in the NFC Championship game.

Much to my surprise, the success on the field this season has taught this fan of 38 years that my love and passion for the franchise runs beyond just the name itself.

Whether Redskins or Commanders, they will always be the Burgundy and Gold, and I will forever bleed those colours.

I don’t know about the rest of you, but the one-syllable nickname I’m using is the Skins. It’s not the full old name and it doesn’t have to make sense to anyone but True Fans. If the Canadiens fan can call their team the Habs, we can do something similar.
