2024 Roster Updates

Amazing the impact Crowder has had in the past month. I hope we resign him in all honesty. It is not just as a WR but Special Teams as well...
We were wearing our matching Duke shirts when we saw him here at GT...I think it was his senior year. Duke won the game and we were not well-received as we walked back to the parking lot.

I was IMMENSELY happy when we drafted him.

Everytime I think about the AP hiring I note, along with others, I think we hired the best GM in the NFL. Hand's down!

Good owner too. One of the reasons I posted the Sweat thread, because it showed great foresight from the top well in advance. I actually would not mind still having Sweat but not at what he cost.

It will be interesting to see if some of these guys go on to have decent careers elsewhere with different schemes.

Example - Gibson is having solid year in NE with over 600 combined yards.

LA obviously saw enough in Forbes to be willing to take on his remaining guaranteed money.

I'm not saying we should have kept any of them but I doubt that none of them can play at this level. I think most of them were seriously overdrafted, leading to unrealistic expectations.

Antonio Gibson was the best guy on offense in Washington that wasn't named Terry for several years. I don't think they let him go because they didn't know that, they let him go because his best years were behind him (which they were). Forbes is a bust. Until the Rams or someone else proves me wrong, I will die on that hill. Who else have we let go that we think will resurrect their career somewhere else?. Montez Sweat definitely will, but I think they knew that and got what they could.

I thought Mike Mayock was just awful with the Raiders, but it would be fun to see if any other executive has ever had as bad a 4 year run in the draft as Ron Rivera.

We don't know who had control over what picks unfortunately. Rumor has it Jon Gruden had complete control over 1st rounders, Mayock had Day 3 of the draft. And they had some sort of unclear hierarchy for Day 2.

I think they also just didn't trust his hands. Gibson had a reputation as a fumbler and someone who would fumble at really inopportune times. I'm not sure if he was as bad as his reputation, but I think Rivera more or less put him in the doghouse because of the fumbles. Just didn't trust him.

On a completely unrelated note... Cade York just yanked a 33 yard field goal right. No wonder we cut that bum! So not clutch.

BTW: Tee Higgins is good - hoping we can get him to pair up with Terry. That will make our WR corps one scary outfit to play week in and week out.

Chase from the same team may be easier to get...Bengals can't afford both but Higgins would likely be cheaper for them.

That's right, they didn't sign a new deal for Chase. I forgot about that. If we could get JChase, oh mama!

Everyone said Eckler's best years were behind him but he has done well here (minus the concussion time and those can be freak things). I think Gibson would have had a good year in Eckler's role here although probably not as good Eckler had on a per-game basis.

I know you are ready to die on the Forbes hill. While I'm fully on board with the idea he isn't a shutdown corner in this league, I'm not convinced he is a total bum yet.

I think Davis will continue to show up places too - if for no other reason than he is a freak athletic specimen and there are lots of desperate coaches and GMs in this league who look at that thinking they can fix him.

St. Juste will get another contract - if not here (and I don't think it will be here), then somewhere.

Please understand, I'm not saying any of these guys are ever going to sniff a Pro Bowl nomination, much less make it. Hell, I doubt any of them are regular starters and if they are it will be on a team in the bottom quarter of the league. But there are more guys in this league who never reach that level than do. I think a fair number of the guys we don't keep will move on and have careers other places. It's going to be interesting to see which ones step up for the challenge and which ones don't. That's all.

That's all fair. But I will say I'm not the only one ready to die on the Forbes hill. Adam Peters, Joe Whitt Jr., and Dan Quinn are up here with me dying on it. You don't flat out release the 16th pick in an NFL draft unless you decide he is absolutely a bust and can't play at this level. I agree with the rest, as I mentioned guys like Montez and Antonio can play, the team just didn't figure them in their long-term plans or had other priorities.

Yes , Forbes may end out playing okay for another team in a different scheme but he isn't going to ever live up to 16th selection worthy. Or first day one or two worthy.
