One of the biggest needs in any new OC is something I've not even seen referenced. Whoever it is, they need to be highly skilled in molding/grooming a young QB into an NFL starter. That is literally the most important talent we should be looking for if we are seemingly going to dedicate an entire 2023 season to finding out who we have in Sam Howell. For me, that is the #1 priority. Is that Bienemy, Shurmur, or someone else?

If you believe he is genuinely the OC in KC then I think the development of Mahomes speaks eloquently on behalf of Bienemy.
 
Not sure. How do you determine - is it Reid, is it Matt Nagy, or is Mahomes just so gifted he was going to 'develop' regardless of who he was surrounded with? I think the only one who could speak to Bienemy's influence would be Mahomes and obviously we aren't likely to hear his honest feelings on that topic.

It’s probably all for naught anyway.

I fully expect Rivera to hire Shurmur. He would be the safe, familiar, and uninspiring type of choice that Ron specializes in.

I don’t see him Living With Bieniemy.
 
Roman makes a lot of sense if you are looking to be a rush-dominant team. He has a serious history of some of the best rushing offenses of the last decade.

Not sure why they've had waited this long to interview him though - was he in the running for a HC gig or something? Or is this a sign EB is considered unlikely?

Or is it a passive/aggressive message to Bieniemy?
 
I have actually been hoping Roman would get a look. I'm not sure he is the long-term answer (as if any of these coaches are going to be around long-term) but he might make a nice one-year guy with his brilliant work on the rushing attack. It would take the focus off Howell while he learns and might set him up for success with the next regime. Roman also has a lot of experience working with young, mobile QBs (Jackson, Kapernick).
