The 2022 Quarterback Thread

I think giving more than what they offered for a 34 year old coming off surgery to his throwing hand is a bridge too far.

NFCE

Dallas- Dak Prescott
Philadelphia- Jalen Hurts
New York- Daniel Jones
Washington- Taylor Heinicke

🤣

That’s why the Seahawks preferred to ship him to the AFC. There is no threat to them with Wilson in Denver. He has a much easier path to beat them in the playoffs in the NFC.

I think Denver was more than willing to send him to DC - we offered 3 first rounders and were willing to add players. It’s been confirmed that Wilson would not set aside his no trade clause when it came to DC or Philly. Don’t think it mattered what we offered. I think the ‘get him out of the NFC’ stuff was not a huge factor personally.

At the end of the day, we tried.

Wentz isn't necessarily a bad option, but he is far from a sure thing either.

It needs to be seen as an upgrade from Heinicke I suppose, but the one thing I hope it doesn't replace is drafting someone at some point in April's draft.

The one other thing I want to add is that we traded with Chris Ballard. That is one sharp cookie at GM. It scares me a bit dealing with him because he knows what he's doing.

All that said, as it stands today, we are better at QB I think. Are we playoff worthy? That book is yet to be written.

I want to add one other thing that I am wondering right now...

Was this a reactionary move? The timing is quite interesting. Not even 24 hours after the Russell Wilson news drops, Wentz is our new QB.

I am assuming that we had both scenarios prepared beforehand and were going to act based on Wilson's preferences. However, the one thing I will continue to reiterate is that I hope it is not some sort of sign that Rivera's is under the gun to win now. That usually spells trouble for us, because you know who is usually behind all that...

Two thirds reportedly part of the deal...I hope there is a pick coming our way as well. Especially since it is also being rumoured that we are eating his entire 2022 salary.

Will be interesting to see how it plays out...

To me this is to give the guy we draft 1-2 years to develop.

Feeling a tad better now...nevermind - I didn't see that we were swapping second rounders. I thought we were getting theirs only. Grrr!

Chris Ballard...

2022 cap hit of $28.29 million...

That is crazy money for a guy who might just be a guy.

Wouldn't be surprised if Wentz gets injured and we still see some Heinicke. Wentz is under pressure and that means more hero ball, not less.

Does he even know the Coryell system? I thought Philly was West Coast given Pederson was borne from Reid.

Very funny terms...like Indy knows Wentz will get himself killed....69 baby, 69.

Then again, this team is intentionally aiming to be irrelevant in the near future, and Carson Wentz helps that cause...and also makes for distracting news.

Wentz is a lot better QB than he gets credit for. I know the negatives, but he’s statistically right up there with Cousins as the best QB we’ll had in recent memory.

I feel like they took us to the cleaners though. He’s only got a year left on his contract. Those picks AND picking up his salary (which eats up most of our current cap room) - seems like we overpaid for me.

He's basically a bigger Heinicke who'd probably be Bruce Arians' wet dream. https://www.si.com/nfl/colts/news/colts-carson-wentz-decision-making-titans-overtime

Besides...the last time we sampled Philly leftovers...that was Donovan Mcheadstrongandflabby.....

He's tall, he's manly, he's got a manly beard...that's seductive...sure. I mean, I love the way Jared Goff stands...he probably has the best stance of all QBs...but I'm not going to say Goff is good.

But he's just basically a younger Fitzpatrick, with maybe even less of a brain.

I am not excited about Wentz... Reich was the OC when he was at his best in Philly and he just traded him away a year after trading for him... hmmm

So - if Wentz is a bust, what do those moves say about Reich?

Who knows what happened. Agreed it’s a big red flag but always two side to a story.
