No offense, but JP Finlay doesn’t have a ****ing clue what the team is thinking. He’s got about as much inside information as you or I do DP.

Even if JP doesn't have insight...I don't think (personally) we make a move from 19 unless its a HUGE jump to top 10 and that makes no sense to me.
he's been pretty adamant that there is not going to be a move up for Lance... that 'he's just not their guy.' He's been pretty emboldened in the idea that if Fields was there after the NFC East picks in the first round they could consider jumping up over New England.
He was a beat guy for a long time... I don't think he's necessarily connected to Rivera, but it wouldn't surprise me if he had some relationships in that building.

Davis to me is a risk. One year of production in college and from what I am reading a guy who was a late first or even second rounder to many before the draft.
Admittedly this pick at #19 is later than we have been selecting in recent seasons but I was hoping we were going to select a player with a bit longer track record of production, especially at Kentucky which isn’t exactly Alabama.

Just to play Devil's Advocate here - Ryan Anderson played 4 years - at Alabama - and, well, here we are drafting Davis in an off-season that saw Anderson leave without ever making enough of an impact to get so much as a contract offer to stay.

He hasn’t broken one story accurately ahead of the team announcing it since Rivera came to town. Not beating on him, seems like a nice guy. But none of these media guys (and Keim openly acknowledges this) are getting much in the way of leaks or inside info.

I think it’s fine to argue there were safer picks, but the idea that it’s more likely it’s a bad pick because they only had one season of starter film on him is curious. They’re either right that he’s one of the best defensive players in the draft or they aren’t. A season or two more might’ve given them reassurance, but the guy is either ‘it’ or he isn’t.

Anyone can point to a blown pick by a previous regime as there is risk in the draft.
But I think one would agree that the more tape you have on a player in more varied situations on the field over time the better feel you probably will have in projecting him to the next level.
That said, the front office GM or Head Coach making the selection has to be able to look at the film and adequately evaluate the player
That didn't always happen here in the past.
At one point I think after Round 1 where we picked Allen and Payne, we fell into a continued pattern of staying on the Alabama 'bandwagon' in taking other guys solely because of that pedigree - that goes for Anderson, Shaun Dion Hamilton, etc. as well as the trade for Ha Ha Clinton Dix, another Alabama alum that did little here.
We are much more balanced now in our approach to the draft and free agency.
No hare-brained 'reaches for the sky' in free agency and mega-contracts as well as a sober consideration of the balance between athletic upside and need in the draft.
Remember 2008 when Vinny Cerrato decided to draft THREE pass catchers in Round 2, despite the fact the team had holes in a lot of places?
The fact all three receivers turned out to be busts of one shade or another only made it that much worse.

Brown's speed, 20.0 yards per catch average and work ethic from the testimonials of coaches would lead you to believe he would have been taken way ahead of the back half of the third round.
He's 6'0 but 189 and perhaps the lack of 200+ size is why he dropped a bit. But teams are always looking for guys that can take a 15 yard pass and go 60 yards and he seems to be that type of player.

Is there any film on Dyami Brown being productive on routes beyond flys and goes? I don’t think I have seen any and am curious why some think he could be a slot option.

I am not crazy about any of the picks since Cosmi. We did not need a corner or a WR. I think both guys have potential talent-wise. The TE pick is a total reach. Not sure how we make that pick.

It’s not sexy but Washington has been playing without blocking support from the TE position for quite awhile.
That was Trevor Matich’s opinion as well.
Thomas is athletic and can catch and I think a stronger, more confident arm at qb will produce more big plays down the field for him.
Bates fills the complementary role as a blocker and secondary safety valve Sprinkle failed to secure on the team despite being given multiple opportunities.
Don Warren was a #4 pick.
Again not sexy.
