53 Man Roster Thread

Wow. That really IS a shock! That's the kind of cold, hard move the Patriots make every year. I'm not arguing that AP can't still play, but as was recently discussed, the end has to be in sight, and they are probably making an unpopular but correct decision for the future.

I'm not a fan of the move.... but I guess I get it... still think it's the wrong move.

Remains to be seen if this might have any non-football-related implications. Sure as hell hope not. I'm not going to question it if it's a straight-up football move, because Ron is rebuilding this thing from the ground (heh) up and I'm okay deferring to his perspective ... but if there's more to the story that would just be depressing.

Man someone asked me this as I was walking into work and I thought it was crazy...

Over the last 15 min I've started to wonder.

If you're able to work out an extension prior to the deal, I would consider it... but I still am not sure I pull the trigger for a 1.

Even in a rebuild AP’s expertise could potentially set the young rb’s futures up for success. To squash the chance to work with a HOF rb there’s gotta be something more to it other than merely a roster spot.

I’m thinking either AP wants to compete with a 2020 contender and sought his release, or, he’s got legal trouble brewing and RR decided to cut bait beforehand. Kinda like Dunbar

I just don't see AP fitting the style of RB Scott Turner wants to run in this offense. Look what he expects from the RB...AP just doesn't fit the mold of a RB who catches many passes out of the backfield. I said it back in the spring that I would not be surprised if AP were not on the 1st week roster.

I'm very surprised we have not (could still technically happen) seen the first waves of cuts after practice ended today. I'm assuming we have another practice in the morning but not sure. Would have imagined we would do what other teams have done and started trimming down. Tomorrow is likely going to be a busy day.

If they have practice in the morning, I get that. If that's the case they likely want to take one last look at a handful of guys.

I think the RB room is now set so no competition there.

WR could be a battle for the no. 5 spot, 1 - 4 are likely set and carrying 4 RBs may open up a 6th spot there.

O-line, i guess the bottom 2 or 3 spots might be up for grabs but it's a whole big ball of 'meh' once you get behind Brandon Scherff.

D-line is likely set with a couple guys fighting for PS spots. Could see a youngin break in like Brailford, Smith-Williams, or Bee...

LB is likely set

CBs are likely set

S competition likely comes down to whether Sean Davis makes the team or we carry 4.

hmmm, that’s definitely odd then. You’d think a brand new HC trying to establish a strong work ethic would keep a professional like AP on, at least for 1 season.

Reading more and more from the reporters I feel like they just want to see what they have in the young guys. Adrian Peterson was on Grant and Danny today and when asked about it, he flat out said that he would not be happy with a diminished role as an accent. He would 'accept' it because he's a professional, but he wants to contribute. The local guys were also referencing Bill Parcells and something he used to talk about. "Progress Killers." Guys who are in the down side of their career who are good enough to be effective, but at the end of the day the team doesn't win. These players take reps away from the younger folks with no long term gain. The progress killers have peaked, so they're not going to get 'better.'

The other thing we have to consider here, is it fair to keep Adrian Peterson in our uniform for 2020? Is it fair to HIM? Do we deactivate him like Gruden did last year? Do we force feed him certain reps? The guy wants to eat, he now has the ability to sign with a contending team and be a key piece of an offense. Pittsburgh, Green Bay, New England... any of those teams could add AP and give him a legit shot at a ring.

I want him here. I like the idea of having him because he's reliable, he's effective, he's a damn good teammate, and he's fun to watch. Realistically though....we're likely a 5-7 win team unless we have some surprises... and a few of those surprises are likely Bryce Love and Antonio Gibson. I don't think Adrian Peterson takes OUR team to another level like Gibson and Love can.

Interesting nugget on Ryan Anderson here. I had him locked on the 53. Didnt consider him trade bait... would be smart if we can get any sort of an actual return for him. Brailford has been impressing and Young, Sweat, and Kerrigan are likely your rotational pieces. Anderson likely spends a lot of time on the sidelines.
