Could it be Tua?

Were those stats for the defense or offense ?
Because on one hand it seems like you'd post stats for defense, to support your conclusion.
But on the other hand, those stats sure do sound like our Offense in 2019.
If those are Defense stats, I'd be very curious to see our Offense's version of those stats. ; As I'm sure they would make a similarly strong case for drafting an offensive superstar as opposed to a defensive one.

I had similar thoughts :)

Listening to talk radio while running errands. One the talking heads noted that Todd Mcshay stated a source had told him Snyder told the staff in no uncertain terms that they were not drafting a qb. Make what you will of this.

If there's a 'source' who shares details of organizational thinking with Todd McShay - please fire him :)

I don't know that I believe that (and not shooting the messenger). My sense of Rivera is that he isn't going to be told what to do by the owner after being hired based on a new 'coach-centric' philosophy. I also believe that this exact scenario had to have been discussed at length during the pre-hire process and that there was agreement either that they'd go forward with Haskins as the presumptive future, or that it would be left up to Rivera and Smith to determine.

Agreed Boone, my spin on it concerns the possibility that maybe this IS what they decided and Snyder just shot his mouth off. Who knows?

I can vouch for Henry. They're real. And they're spectacular. Not like those cheap stripper implants you're sporting Al :)

I've seen a few mocks today that have us taking Tua at 2. I hate this idea for so many reasons. I'm not at all sold on Haskins, but I also don't think he was given a fair shot at an accurate assessment. I was never sold on Chase Young. He has amazing talent, but he has very obvious lazy attributes that I see a lot on his tape that everyone is ignoring. When he creates a fumble, he stands back to see what happens. Then if his teammate recovers it, he makes absolutely no effort to get up field. This scream Haynesworth to me, and until he does differently, I can't be swayed on that, because the film backs me up.

All that aside, Tua would not be a good pick. He has a serious injury history, which anyone who pays attention knows doesn't go away when you enter the NFL. It gets worse, or exposes you and severely hinders your career. Also, Tua had probably the greatest WR corps in NCAA history to throw to, and that is a huge factor in his performance. If you have 3-4 Jerry Rice type WRs you can make Terry Bradshaw look like a superstar.

That being said, our best option by far is to seek a king's ransom for the 2 pick. But given the Redskins history, we will absolutely be taking Tua at 2, and regretting it for years to come. You can bank on it.

I’m all in on Haskins, he was starting to gel with the wr’s and game speed toward the end. If we get him even a decent TE and some o-line upgrades the kid is gonna go nuclear.

Against Tua 100%

Hey, even Drew Brees needs a Taysom Hill !
Why can't we have both of them ?
It takes Tua to Tango !

I’d be fine going QB In the mid to late rounds to push him, even a decent free agent QB to challenge. Fingers crossed we get a high 2nd back via Trent and get the best LT available there to protect DH.

Though I still get this feeling we’re trading out of the 2nd pick and GM to be Smith produces David Copperfield level sorcery working his mojo. Like we’ll end up with double digit picks same as last year. That draft was pretty damn good so I’d trust him to do it again.

When you hit your 60s (if not sooner) you'll be sporting a pair just like the rest of us!

I just watched this movie with my kids last night. The genius of Leslie translates to this day to adults and kids alike.

"White guy, mustache. 6'3""
"Thats a mighty big mustache"

sorry...too coincidental not to comment on.

The irony is that the Lions at #3 may be in the best position to cash in on trading the pick for teams that are thirsting for Tua.

By that pick it is expected that Burrow and Young will be off the board so unless something unexpected happens the Lions will probably be the ones on the phone looking to deal the pick in earnest.

Even though Matthew Stafford is 32 and injury prone they owe this guy so much money I can't see them moving on from him in 2020.

Matt Patricia does not have the same kind of contract that Jon Gruden does, so he doesn't have the luxury of building slowly over 10 years.

He needs to make this draft count and the best way for that to happen is for Stafford to remain the QB and for the Lions to get 2 or 3 impact players from trading down from #3 overall.

Starting to think there may be serious consideration going on here. Remember - Rivera had nothing to do with the selection of Dwayne Haskins. If he doesn't feel he's the guy to carry the Redskins forward at QB, all bets are off. Also keep in mind, while the Redskins might be quite concerned about the long-term health of Tua and shy away from him for those concerns, Ron Rivera is under immense pressure to win soon. Whether or not Tua has a long career or not, isn't on his top 10 list of worries. He'd likely be looking at which QB, Haskins or Tua, can win soon. Based on their history and half a year of Haskins tape, the answer may not favor Dwayne Haskins.

Late to the party again B, as is my wont, but why exactly do you feel Riverboat Ron is under immense pressure to win soon? The Dan's Napoleonesque mentality notwithstanding, his resume is pretty solid. Then again. so was Marty's. Uh....

I'm not taking any credit for this, but I've been listening to podcasts and reading articles all week, and there are two that stood out to me...

The first was the John Keim report the other day when they were talking about Tua and his medicals at the Combine. He was talking with Dane Bruglar from the Athletic.
They were talking about the fact that there were so many question marks on Tua...

Firstly he can throw, but it's not in the arm apparently, he throws from the hip. Which is a concern considering his injury and the fact that no one has seen him throw since. He's cleared medically, but he didn't perform at the combine.
On top of that, I think they said he had a knee injury, ankle injury, and a finger injury too. Teams may be worried about his breaking down from being hit repeatedly.

Lot of injuries listed in there and a lot of uncertainty for a team that has a BAD track record with picking guys with this kind of history.

The other thing I saw was an article (I can't remember where I read it or who it was. I'd credit it if I could!) who was talking about Rivera's history.

He played on one of the great defenses of all time. He's been a linebacker coach, a defensive assistant and is a coach with a defensive mindset... and this draft contains a player who is being widely regarded as a generational talent. A true game changer on defence… and we're to believe that Rivera WON'T pick him?

Those two reports kinda jumped out at me.

Add in the fact that Haskins ended the season strongly and by all accounts is working super hard in the offseason to get better and I'd be confident that Young is a lock at 2. I'd be really surprised if we picked Tua.

I think Rivera is under pressure to win soon, but I think he see's that winning coming from establishing an identity as a very strong defensive team. I think if we can do that, then the addition of a good TE, a good fortune shining on our RB health, and maybe another WR to join Scary Terry would give Haskins every chance to develop into something we could forge a future on moving forwards.

I think this is on par with how a properly run franchise runs things. Most likely, they are going to take Chase. But, but you want there to be some buzz that you could draft Tua. That way in the slim chance that someone strongly believes you are into Tua, you can hear out what their offer would be. That, and also, even if there is a slim chance that Cincy trades out of the #1 pick, or takes Chase - you have vetted all the players, and have plans for all scenarios.

Im not sure why I said that so emphatically. All NFL coaches are under pressure to win. I think my thought process there was just to point out that while the team might have long-term health concerns about a guy like Tua, coaches largely worry about the next couple seasons. That’s often why teams shy away from giving a HC a ton of power as Rivera has been given. Anyway, I agree with you despite the wording I used there. Rivera probably has 4-5 years minimum to have some success.
