Karl Swanson leaving the Skins

I stand corrected. :)

Not so fast LL. (Hey, now there's a post-Marko Mitchell handle for you if I ever saw one ;) )

Somehow, after years of the royal cluster schtup that passed for the team's media/fan handling policies that ultimately resulted in the vitriolic chickens of negative publicity finally coming home to roost with Danny last season, Swanson's hackneyed excuse that he's leaving to spend more time with his family has the feel of a certain group of mob crew members getting theirs after ignoring orders not to go blowing a bunch of money on expensive stuff.

The first to go was Jimmy "The Medium" Zorn followed by Vinny "The Brown Nosed Rat" Cerrato. Finally, Karl "Dissonant Dullard" Swanson gets popped and the circle is finally closed. Well except for the one guy who's immune to ever gettin' it. ;)

So we first had Signgate and now we have CheerleaderGate (or would it Marinegate?)

Does Snyder run a socially retarded organization or what?

Swanson has already been replaced, by Tony Wyllie, a VP with the Texans for the past 10 years.

I wonder how Art feels about all this and whether this spells change for ES' relationship with the Redskins.

Again with the stupid negative press and distractions.

And you wonder why Leonsis is the darling of DC and Snyder is so hated.
The Skins need to kiss some media tail to get them to lay off and then quit doing such stupid things like Sign and Cheerleadergate......

oh and a few winning seasons would be nice.:)

What, were he and Swanson BFF's or something?

I don't know--but I think Swanson (in the guise of andyman or otherwise) was an important figure in the ES-Redskins relationship, and Art, as a key figure at ES, seemed to have some kind of relationship with Karl. But I don't know much--just seemed like it might be important that one of the key people from the team that supported ES with inside information is leaving. To be clear here, I'm not at all trying to stir the pot--just was a thought that popped into my head.

You guys are the reason a job like Swanson's is one I would never accept. It's kinda funny actually ... the Washington Post is a total joke, right up until they write something negative about the Redskins front office ... at which time they are the Bastion of Truth.

That story, if you read the whole thing fairly, makes only one thing clear: there is absolutely no way to draw any solid conclusions, and it appears that there was plenty of blame to go around. And to conclude that Swanson's leaving is directly related to this story? Come on fellas. We're supposed to think here. :)

Oh ... and on the Art, Swanson, ES connection ... yeah, it's big. Swanson is the reason the deal happened, and the reason it's remained in place long beyond the initial contract expired. What happens next is anyone's guess. Going to be interesting to watch, though I don't suspect anything very noticeable to the outside world will happen overnight. It will probably take a while, but my guess is the landscape may very well look different in a year or so.

No inside info there, just a semi-educated guess.

All I said was that there was some speculation he may have left because of that incident, not even if I agreed with it or not. But the story happened, and someone at Redskins park is to blame. It is quite coincidental that Swanson happens to leave after this PR debacle happens though...

just sayin' :)

I have a hard time believing there's no connection at all between the cheerleader incident and Karl's leaving; it just strains credulity otherwise. And I'm smart enough to know that when someone leaves for "family reasons" there's a 99% chance he was fired.

whatever happens, we'll certainly have a front row seat for it.

my predictions - based on nothing but my (lack of?) instincts...

A. current access to the team through select members will change entirely. i'm predicting it will be eliminated.

B. members sitting in the press box will no longer be allowed.

C. "insider" information will be sharply curtailed or eliminated if at all possible.

D. elimination of members selling their own team related items, including tickets.

E. censorship - no way to predict what and how much, but i have a feeling that some changes will occur in this area.

the first three predictions are based on how mr. allen prefers to keep team information away from the public until something is definite.

i'm just a bystander and plan to take this approach...:kick_can:

Snyder has worked with Swanson long enough to not fire him, and instead allow him to leave for his own reasons. :)

Again, not saying I believe it, but it IS a very strong coincidence.

I think Karl was fired just like Vinny was fired. Both technically "resigned" but that means nothing.

If Snyder has to apologize for something, usually heads will roll...
I'm hoping the fact that this means things are really changing.

For the record, I'm veryglad Swanson is leaving - inside info or no inside info. Net-net I think he represents a key cog a regime that was consistently inept not only at managing an NFL franchise, but also managing it's image.

There has recently been the institution of a browser hi-jack to registration page for those not logged in. Maybe they need more names to add to the waiting list. ;)

Isn't it amazing how a guy that came to prominence starting a marketing company would end up with this many puddles to clear up over the past 10 years? :)

You really couldn't have scripted things any worse if you tried.

The players failed. The coaches failed. The front office failed. The PR people failed. And most noticeably Snyder himself failed.

And what he failed with more than anything was properly evaluating people.

He should have known that he and Schottenheimer would never make a good match.

He also should have been perceptive enough to know that Jim Zorn was a granola who had a 'philosophy' of football but one that had never been tested out in a 'live fire' exercise and that the Washington Redskins 2008-2009 seasons was not the appropriate place for that test to be conducted :)

I still think Zorn was an accident. Snyder never intended to put Zorn in the HC position, but he for some reason decided to hire coordinators BEFORE hiring a head coach. He then found out the hard way that nobody is going to willingly enter that situation, especially any coaches worth their salt. Sooooo, he was stuck giving the job to Blache or Zorn, and I think Blache told him to take long walk off a short pier (not in so many words) because he wanted to retire soon.
