Just an interesting random.

Got a text from my brother this morning:
"Fun fact. Victor (a family friend who is a trainer of college & professional athletes) messaged me this morning on FB and told that he trained our new wide receiver for 4 weeks prior to the combine. Said he's a great kid, a very hard worker and an athletic freak. He said he was one of the best pure athletes he's ever worked with. So that's a good report :)"

I just got that much more excited about our pick :)
 
Anyone know why Billings has dropped so far? Interesting that he has fallen to day 3 when so many had him rated high.

I think Boone hit it on the head last night.

He may just be a faster, stronger version of Chris Baker. And there's nothing wrong with that. Baker had a great season.

But teams might want a DT that can rush the passer a little better.

Doubt that anyone has forgotten and I have the same misgivings on the prognosis

The upside I see, if you care to venture into that realm for just a microsecond, is that Fuller will be given full time to recover with no pressure to perform immediately since his position is reasonably full of depth.

Might be considered a flyer taken a bit too early but yeah it does sound all too familiar.

Billings' tumble is much more confusing than Cook's because there were no obvious red flags entering the draft.

Throughout the pre-draft process, Billings had supporters from all corners. The statistical community bought into Billlings, who was a first-round selection in Pro Football Focus' mock draft. And scouts seemed to like Billings as well, as one told Bob McGinn of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel that Billings is "Strong as hell. Solid kid. This is one you can rely on.”

It's puzzling, for sure.

First and foremost, the early entrant is ridiculously strong.

As a high school student, Billings broke a Texas prep state record that stood for 22 years with a 2,010-pound all-around effort in squat (805 pounds), bench (500 pounds) and dead lift (705 pounds).

The other interesting thing is that he's only 20 years old.

So you have likely the strongest DT in the entire draft, and he's still incredibly young. Seems like a Scot guy, but would think he goes early today.

I can confidently say this. This draft is an A+ so far for the talent we've taken.

It appears to me that this is the best draft we've had in 20 years.

I'm hopeful that this can continue today.
 
People can worry about anything, and if players will recover from injury, etc...but for those that wanted BPA? This draft is in fact, the best we've had in 20 years.

Recap:

1. We drafted the best or second best WR in the draft.
2. We drafted the best or second best ILB in the draft.
3. We drafted a CB that was rated only behind Jalen Ramsey before injury. And Ramsey is a safety. Higher than Hargreaves.

That's a freaking home run so far.
 
Definitely looks good on paper.

I might be most excited about Cravens. But I like the looks/potential of all 3.

We'll find out when the rubber meets the road in Sept.

I love ya brother - but that's a bit over the top. I believe Doctson is probably one of the top two WRs in the draft, but Cravens the best ILB (or even 2nd best) - that's a highly suspect statement. He played his first 2 years at USC as a DB - and has only a single year at linebacker at the college level. Might he turn out to be the best ILB taken in this draft? Sure, anything is possible. But saying 'we drafted the best or second best ILB in this draft' - I think that's just wishful thinking. I am actually hoping they are planning on using him at safety, but that remains to be seen.

On Fuller, I like the pick (although I thought we were pretty well set at DB already) but until we see his level of play after he recovers, I again, think that's wishful thinking. He had one great season his sophomore year, he's had microfracture surgery already and is coming off a torn meniscus. Those aren't minor details. His was a high risk-high reward pick and it definitely remains to be seen if a) he can return to the kind of shut down corner play he demonstrated that one year, and b) whether he can stay healthy. I think there are serious question marks there.

You're right on Doctson, and I like the other 2 picks, but they are not slam dunks, nor are they RIGHT NOW, in the top two at their positions.
 
I understand your reasons for concern. My proclamation may even sound outlandish at first.

3 minutes after our M Kelly/Fred Davis draft concluded, I went on the "other site" and made a thread titled "The Worst Redskins Draft In Modern History." I gave us a D-. I had never made a thread like that before.

I think that thread was the straw that broke the camel's back for me over there lol. Hundreds of angry responses followed.

Unfortunately, it turned out to be accurate.

I'm even more confident that this is the best draft we've had in 20 years to this point.

Look in the mirror first brother.

All you have to do is copy and paste any analysis you've ever made on any Redskins move.

It's all the same.

I would tell you that the Redskins wouldn't have drafted him if they didn't think he could play but you brush off anything positive so what's the use?

Guarantee when the kid plays and makes plays for us, you'll still find a way to find fault in the move.
 
Reading up on the microfracture thing, the prognosis for 'full' recovery is almost directly related to the rehab regimen along with the work ethic of the individual. He reportedly has excellent work ethic. (our previous guy not so much if I recall correctly)

The gamble is on his full recovery, if successful it has little to no effect on the career and the talent is there. Being young also helps (don't it always seem to be this way).


Here's an article concerning Myles Jack's 'red flag' situation. 'Course now it is said he doesn't need the procedure but guys who have had it done have gone on to fairly decent careers following.

No guarantees of slam dunk on any of these draftees no matter what the needs are.
 
I like the idea of adding picks, too bad we are getting 2017 picks back in trade downs and thus limiting what we can do to improve depth now for the upcoming year.

The one thing I shook my head at when hearing was Grudrn saying he liked the DL we have and if we added a guy late to develop that would be fine.

Really??

You have a solid DE in Chris Baker and a solid rotation guy in Francois.

We have no nose and the idea Gruden floated that Kedric Golston at 32 can help there at 295-300 is questionable at best.

He mentioned Paea but Stephen was MIA last year before ending up on IR.

Does anyone feel secure in what he is going to produce in 2016?

Finally, Gruden mentioned Corey Crawford as an up and coming player.

Funny though that when Knighton was down last year with the migraines and Paea was hurt, I don't recall the team giving Crawford any real looks at DT despite an obvious need.

I like the top 2 picks we made and am fine with waiting until after Round 2 to take DL.

But with the best DL depth in years the idea the Redskins are going to take a smaller corner in Round 3 who may not be ready to play until training camp and trading out of Round 4 where 2 or 3 DTs were taken right around that #22 pick, it doesn't appear to me we made the most out of this drafts best position assets.
 
For us to even gain a numerical points advantage with the last trade down (if you are going by the points charts), next year's 5th round pick has to be in the upper half of the round. To me, there's no reason not to pick the BPA at 120 unless someone offers you a significant offer. That was not a significant offer.

I understand the BPA approach and generally prefer it. But the 'BPA' obviously (unless you are Nostradamus) drops in quality as the draft goes on.

I'll confess I don't get the thinking with that trade down. Felt like we didn't know what to do, so we stalled and got marginal value in return.
