No one, certainly not myself, means to suggest that player evaluation is so unpredictable, that one should just throw darts at a board. Though I'd be willing to bet that that approach would also hit on a good number of successful early round selections. The main thing I've been trying to do, is point out the fact that the best GM's in the business, using every type of methodology/approach imaginable, can, and do, still draft players that fail to live up to their evaluations. For a variety of reason. Some by a long shot. Also, that every team in the league, practically every year, misses on an UDFA that turns out better than half the draftees in his class. I'm not poo-pooing the process. Just stating fact. Indisputable fact. In hopes of enlightening some people. that, if Mr McGloo happens to draft some players that flop, it doesn't mean he doesn't know what he's doing. And this fanbase, who've grown touchier than Felix Ungar over putting your feet on the coffee table, from losing their collective minds, 6 months into what we all hope is a years long successful tenure here.not at all Miles. The GM is on the front end - he builds the roster that coaching then takes to the next level.
building a roster is a process. the builders apply a methodology. chance/uncertainty plays into this like everything else in life. that doesn't mean, ipso facto, that everyone should throw their arms in the air and not approach the problem in a logical, disciplined, organized, planned, implemented and executed fashion. are you and others really arguing that this shouldn't be the process? or are you arguing that no one should be held accountable for results because...try as you might....uncertainty/chance play too large a role?
BTW, the farming analogy was ****ing brilliant! Should not an organization plant the seeds of success...nurture and care for them...so that they grow and bare fruit? Brilliant!btw....the farming example...aside from the fact that farmers take measures to reduce the impacts of events like weather....how often does that happen? would farmers stay in business if their crops were ruined...say 50% of the time (i.e., 50% of each annual growing season)? since that is the analogy that has been put in play...would a 50% hit rate on draft picks reflect a "good" decision-making process? if it's less than 50% then there is less "chance/uncertainty" and the argument for a rational approach gains even more weight.
Finally, you agree with me. I too, am talking about the process. I'm claiming certainty cannot be achieved.I'm talking about the process............ I'm not claiming uncertainty can be eliminated.

Spot on, Ax, including the unfortunate fact that some fans get a little trigger-happy about declaring someone a bust-whether coach or player at the first hint of a less-than perfect performance.
where is the "outrage" here for THIS? He straight up tells the guy to shut up and calls him a clown.
Guess it only applies to Griffin when he does it.

Sports Radio here and Dallas called him out for it and stated that atleast RG wasn't harsh. It just hurts more when it's your guy getting called out.![]()
Right on, my brother.Spot on, Ax, including the unfortunate fact that some fans get a little trigger-happy about declaring someone a bust-whether coach or player at the first hint of a less-than perfect performance.
I know. I was just being a smart-ass.This is the only thing I still find puzzling. I don't recall anyone stating or even hinting that "certainty" is achievable.![]()
I haven't missed anything. I am addressing how one deals with uncertainty in every walk of life. your shot in home example (with obvious redskin tie-in): you telling me a team can't assess who a player associates with, where they live, the activities they engage in....and not make some risk based decisions?
I'm talking about the process - something you have steadfastly avoided. I'm not claiming uncertainty can be eliminated.

My point was more about the mediots who went overboard and not so much redskins fans who made a stink.Nope, Krappernick is a douche and reacted poorly. He just doesn't play for the Redskins' so I don't give a shit.

Ok, I know and you know that they reacted differently. But I can feel this is going down a bad road.OK, but this happened yesterday and I saw it all over Twitter and heard them discussing it on sports talk. I don't watch NFLN or BSPN so I don't know how they reacted to Robert v. Krappernick.

You're one of the few. And ask the Browns how easily it goes to get a team back in your town.If the Danny moved and left the colors, I'd be ecstatic.
It would take two minutes to get a new owner and team here.
