The dolphins just got away with actually violating the rule. We however did actually interview a minority candidate. That said I expect us to lose draft picks.

John Wooten claims that while the Redskins did get permission from the New York Jets to interview Rod Graves, they did not notify the league at the appropriate time. Wooten is citing tampering rules in his complaint, and claims that the Redskins violated the spirit of the rule.

We got permission but we just didn't tell them at the right time? This screams bullshit all over it and its now getting to where with draft picks, collusion, name change...this is tampering by the league itself.

Gibbs also said Snyder was hands-off, yet we still traded away draft picks like candy, made dumb trades and overspent in free agency.

In fairness, per Beathard, Gibbs had issues like this the first time around. He liked veteran players and favored them over young guys so it should not have been a surprise that he did what he did with draft picks the second time around. Gibbs never valued them highly.

I don't get it. How is not filing with the NFL Front Office make any sort of run around the system? They say the Skins complied with the letter of the rule and that Graves is a top notch candidate. I can only assume they want to police how the interview is done to then try and 'prove' the interview is a sham and the Skins didn't really want Graves. Which if that is their aim, proves the rule is stupid. Regardless of how many people a team will interview for a position, they almost always have an idea of who they want. It's not like they are getting resumes from Monster.com.

During the last couple of years the FPA has worked with the NFL to develop hiring guidelines for front office and scouting positions as well as talent development programs. The FPA advocates for policy changes in the NFL hiring practices and working in partnership with the NFL to create opportunities for minority candidates.

I think they are just an independent not-for-profit that 'advises' the NFL. They don't have any authority.

You really believe that Allen was the GM? I know I don't and I don't think anyone was under the assumption he was an actual GM which is why we have been clamoring for one for a long time.

The Redskins named him the GM. If we don't want to take what the team says at face value then ... ok.

Gibbs was the one making the shots there. There is no way that as a fan of this team and a worshiper of all things Gibbs that Snyder was going to get in the middle.

I'm sure Snyder deferred to Gibbs on pretty much everything. However, I also think Gibbs allowed Snyder too much of a say on a lot. Either that or Gibbs had an uncanny knack for making the same exact dumb roster moves that Snyder and Ceratto made for years before and after Gibbs was here. Archuletta, Lloyd, TJ Duckett ... those all reeked of Snyder. Again, what the team DOES is what matters. Not what we think happens the back rooms.

I dont recall Shotty saying that..I recall him being VERY bitter when he came out to SD because he knew he was fired by Snyder. But, we are also jumping back 13 years to argue something that neither one can prove.

Schottenheimer was named head coach and Director of Football Operations. Total Control was in his contract. The first thing Marty did was fire Vinnie. Schottenheimer was fired because "According to the Redskins, Coach Schottenheimer was offered a number of opportunities to modify his contract in order to change responsibility for non-coaching player personnel matters. Schottenheimer's contract would have remained the same except for control over final decisions in the event of disagreement in player personnel matters."

In this case it wasn't just what Schottenheimer said. It was in his contract and Snyder couldn't handle it and therefore fired him, and re-hired Vinnie.

We have NEVER hired a competent and proven GM like Scot before in the Snyder era. The fact that ALLEN made the move and not Snyder shows me he is hands off. The fact that he also gave a quote saying he was going to be hands off....tells me he is going to be hands off.

The Redskins making solid moves and winning games will tell me that. We never had a HOF coach like Gibbs before in the Snyder Era. We never had a Franchise QB like Griffin before in the Snyder Era. I thought those were good additions too.

I like this hire. I hope this isn't a Panic Move and a Reaction Without Thinking. The Redskins do that a lot, and then after a season or two go 'Eh. Forget that.' If this is truly a New Day, Snyder will be hands-off next year. And the year after that. And even the year after that. And some day we'll win some games.

And that will be super-cool.

In all fairness, he was signed pretty late in training camp and was supposed to compete for #2 behind Jeff George.

with all this "we've seen it before" and negativity floating around why would you take them calling Allen the GM seriously? Considering that Shannahan has ALWAYS been in complete control when he coached and Allen was never known as that it was obvious to 99% (apparently) that this was just a name. Allen is good with contracts and numbers...he has never been a personnel guy. I could call myself Supreme Ruler of BGO and that doesn't make it any more so than you acting like you won't be here next year with us

The problem with Archuleta wasn't that he wasn't a good player..it is that he was extremely overpaid. That wouldn't ever be on Gibbs. Brandon Lloyd, too. He has gone on since being here and had a pretty decent career...I don't blame that on Gibbs. Duckett....I got nothing. But Gibbs always liked having vets around that he could depend on. Guess he didn't hit on 100% of them.

So, we're going to argue that Schotty didnt have full control even though he was fired for not giving up full control after 1 year? Does that seem confusing to you as well? I mean, it seems like Snyder halfway gave him full control but then decided to take it back after 1 year. You can't really say you ever really had something after 1 season of coaching.

Gibbs did turn this club around and we made the playoffs 2 times in 4 years. Something that hadn't been done consistently since he left. Sean passing turned all of that upside down, drove players away from the team, and kicked us back to the downward spiral.

I can't see how stripping yourselves of power and hiring a proven winner could be anything but a wise move. Call me a homer but they could have just made AJ Smith the GM if they wanted to keep on with the same ol. I still believe Snyder is hands off with the day to day of football. Yes, Griffin has had dinner with him as has Portis. Yes, he used his private jet to fly his franchise QB to see Dr Andrews...but I dont see that as an issue. Kraft and Brady are best buddies...Elway and Manning, too.

I just see that everyone was clamoring for a GM and screaming from the rooftops how we needed a competent one but as soon as we got one the doubters started screaming again. Its kind of that "damned if you do...." motto that you hear so much.
