PFT: Report: Scot McCloughan expected to be the new G.M. in Washington

New #Redskins GM Scot McCloughan told by Dan Snyder that owner is embarrassed and just wants to win, that he and Bruce Allen won't interfere

--@EdWerderespn

That Bruce press conference may have finally been our rock bottom. Let's hope so.

I wonder if the constant slamming of Dan can now stop with that admission and statement of "he won't interfere"?

A man can dream......a man can dream.

Worry about your own posts - that's enough for any of us :)

I think you are correct...I think this really was his only move to save the fanbase. He knows the fans are fed up.

The problem I have with this hiring is that it is the perfect marketing ploy as the new season tickets are about to go on sale. In the very near future invoices are going out...on top of that, they will try to market them. They will do all this using the McCloughan hire as the "A New Era Dawning in DC!"

Again, this is the man I was screaming for a month ago...here it is and I have to be honest, I am just numb...or maybe callous. Who knows?

This is pretty much exactly where I am with this move. It's a good move. It really is.

I just hope it was done for the right reason, because if not, if it's just to shut the fans up and get us buying tickets again ... I have a feeling it's going to backfire.

As usual, I'm crossing fingers and hoping for the best.

I don't agree with it. I don't see this as a deperate move to appease the fans. I've never waivered in my comments on the front office. I wasn't on the bash Snyder/allen bandwagon.

What I have preached is that it appeared to me from my perspective, that Dan has already changed his ways. And that it came with bringing in Allen and Shannahan. Then letting them do their jobs. Then firing Shanahan but keeping the GM promoting him to President. I said all along, it was small steps in the right direction, that we were now on what I see at the right path. Yes that path was full of speedbumps, but we take the route slow and sure, until we get it right and get to where this team needs to be.

I see this new GM hire as an extension of that changed philosophy, along with the Gruden hire. Now don't get me wrong, Gruden will be fired in soon enough, it always happens to almost all the teams. Don't get caught up in all that. We are more concerned about establishing a foundation and team building philosophy. Still won't happen overnight. I suspect 4-5 years if we rely on the draft alone, shorter time if we take advantage of getting the RIGHT guys in free agency.

We had to suffer the 4 win season for the move to be made though, I will agree with that, but to me its consistent with what I have been witnessing. Fast forward 3 years of new players and then a new coach the 4th year, we will be knocking on the promised land doors. What my crystal balls tells me.

I didn't say this was a desperate move micks, although to be honest, it kinda is. But this is a move made out of desperation that could very well set this team up to be as strong as we've seen in the NFC West the past 5 years. I will take the 4 win season if it truly means we've changed. Looks like we have.

It's just that it seems all too familiar. I think it's the right move, but look at the track record of this…Joe Gibbs was the right move, and you're correct…I still think the Shanahan move showed Dan was moving in the right direction…but look where we are. We need some people in place to get the job done correctly, not a HOF coach, not a dynamic QB, but someone who will look at the whole of the team and get the coaches and the players he feels will get it done. I think we're on the right track…I really do.

Still…there is trepidation.

I think Elephant is God like!

I think we made the right move, but like any other off-season move in the last 5 years, I am going to remain cautiously optimistic. This is what I think was needed to turn this around, this was the man I think is the one to do it. But Boone, I have been crushed by the wave of mistakes made by this team. Even with the one man I think can truly save this franchise, I am still skeptical. He hasn't done it here. I am happy we got him, but numb by 7 years of cellar dwelling in the last 9.

Yes. One small victory at a time. Due to almost an almost nonexistent scouting staff, I feel like we have been fighting with one hand tied behind our back for the last decade. While this won't fix things overnight, like Gruden's hiring, I believe it's a big step forward from where we were.

:bsflag:

You were telling us all there would be immediate results when Gruden was hired. There were absolutely NO caveats. You said it would be unequivocal. That Gruden was the savior and that we were going to make the playoffs this year.

Nope.

We've heard that before and the team keeps making the same mistakes. I want to see what the team actually does, and not just go with statements from people on Snyder's payroll.

Consistently putting a solid team on the field will shut up the critics.

We have? I didn't realize we had hired a GM and given someone with a proven track record as an actual GM power over the team before now.

But, I'm just here to grin and smile ;)

LOL...are you serious? I love the hire. I think McCloughan is very, very good, but I am not convinced Snyder won't find a way to screw this up.

I feel better about the team's situation then I did last week, but I'm still going to be skeptical until I see the real results. I have zero doubts in McCloughan, but I don't trust Snyder.

I am serious...like many have said before me, Snyder hasn't been hands on especially since Shanahan came in. Now he is saying it directly to Scot. Personally, I am good with that and think he is serious. But, I get it. Time will tell for some of you.

Allen has been our GM for five years. He's been Shanahan-less this past year. Synder has supposedly been hands off that entire time, yet we still traded young for old. We still overspent in free agency. There were still rumors of Snyder playing favorites with certain players. Gibbs also said Snyder was hands-off, yet we still traded away draft picks like candy, made dumb trades and overspent in free agency. Schottenheimer also said Snyder was hands-off, yet he was fired after one season.

Yes yes yes. We have heard it before. Many times.

What will prove that THIS time is different are the actual moves the team makes, and the results those moves bear. Not what the Redskins tell us.

None of us knows if 'Snyder has been hands on' - NONE of us. Maybe he has, maybe he hasn't. I really could give a rat's ass either way. I care about not sucking. I care about wins. I care about making the playoffs. And I care about not being a perennial ****ing cellar-dwelling embarrassment of a franchise while the Cowboys win playoff games.

And that's the basis on which I'll judge this move and the basis on which I'll judge Dan Snyder who, I don't care if he's your adopted father, has delivered nearly nothing but suckitude to Redskins fans since he got here. I don't care if it's poor Dan's fault, or he's the unluckiest well-intentioned rich guy alive.

From all appearances this hiring, along with finally giving Haslett the heave ho, is the best possible one we could have made. That's a good thing. It doesn't change the history we've lived not even a little. This move changes things when things change. When we consistently draft great players. When we consistently cut bad players. When we thank and then move older non-productive vets (thanks for the memories Santana) out to pasture. When we stop signing guys past their prime for more than they are worth or can ever produce. When we find those hidden gems over and over again in the draft and free agency. When we establish a home field advantage. When coaches who can't get the job done, friends, family, or whatever, are shown the door. When winning, winning, and more winning is all that matters. When we are a perennial playoff contender that other teams don't want on their schedule. Then things will have changed.

I'm open to the possibility. I've been waiting 20 years for the possibility. I'm excited about the possibility. But nothing has changed. Not yet. When changes happen, I'll acknowledge 'things have changed'. And my outlook, mood, and appreciation for my team will change too.

And that's exactly how it should work my friends. At least in my world.

What Boone said. :)

You really believe that Allen was the GM? I know I don't and I don't think anyone was under the assumption he was an actual GM which is why we have been clamoring for one for a long time.

Gibbs was the one making the shots there. There is no way that as a fan of this team and a worshiper of all things Gibbs that Snyder was going to get in the middle.

I dont recall Shotty saying that..I recall him being VERY bitter when he came out to SD because he knew he was fired by Snyder. But, we are also jumping back 13 years to argue something that neither one can prove.

We have NEVER hired a competent and proven GM like Scot before in the Snyder era. The fact that ALLEN made the move and not Snyder shows me he is hands off. The fact that he also gave a quote saying he was going to be hands off....tells me he is going to be hands off.

Reason #2,362 why it's a stupid ****ing rule in the first place.
