I think talking of moving out of this pick when the overall draft class for qb talent is considered above average vs. most drafts of the last 10 years speaks to fear of failure and trepidation in taking the heat for doing the job.

If you are starting out with that mindset you might as well put down the pen and clean out your desk.

To me if I am the owner I want confident people working for me, those that are willing to take REASONABLE risks to be successful, not hide behind my Mommy apron.

Expect Weaver to be named DC in Baltimore as they will want him to stay. Another guy that may be unavailable by the end of the day.

Baltimore doesn't want him to leave and after the actions taken by Detroit and Houston to safeguard their staffs I wouldn't wait if he is a serious candidate.

One thing they said during the GM search was that they wanted to be thorough but act quickly. Now, I don't know if it was possible to be decisive if they really were aiming for Johnson and Johnson kept them dangling until yesterday, but it does feel like they've been caught flat footed. Part of me thinks that the moment Johnson said, "No!" They should have gone to their B candidate and offered them the job. I mean they've already conducted all the interviews. They should have a plan worked out.

I just spoke to a trusted source who told me that Washington could potentially have a new HC before training camp begins.

Well, one would hope that Spielman is not part of the process of selecting the coach.

You don't need TWO GM's in the interview room.

If in the end it comes out that Peters HAD a candidate all along but had to convince Harris or Rales to hire that coach that bodes ILL for this team going forward.

This search process definitely has been thorough, enough so that Washington should know now each candidate's favorite color, the names of all his kids and pets, and whether he likes boxers or briefs

Harris is a rookie NFL owner, but not a rookie sports franchise owner. I have to imagine that the process of hiring a coach would be somewhat similar. I do think the GM should make a case to the owner as to why that candidate should be considered for HC to the owner, however, I also think that should have happened prior to the first interview. I get that money may have killed the deal. Whether Peters thought Johnson's asking price was ridiculous or Harris vetoed it.

I would remind folks that Atlanta lost to Washington this season. I don't know they are that close. Although I do have respect for Raheem Morris and his ability to make players perform better than they did in 2023 in the upcoming season.

We seem to have ruled Morris out relatively early in the process (when Atlanta was talking to Belichick), I hope that is not a mistake that comes back to bite us.

One question for those that want to trade the #2 pick:

What happens if we don't find a quarterback in the 2024 draft, Howell after additional time in 2024 is NOT found to be the answer and then we are back in 2025 looking for a quarterback except this time we have perhaps the #10 pick which falls outside of the range to get one of the top prospects?

Do we then trade up?

I guess what I am asking is whether we are just kicking the can down the road and only helping out another team like Atlanta get better while we remain in last place in the NFC East.

In case anyone has forgotten Washington was 0-6 in the NFC East this season.

I think with a new HC OC and improve line Howell can be a Kirk level qb in the NFL. If however I am wrong and he flops next season we will end up really bad again and get a top 5 pick. And I personally think from looking at the College QBs next years class fells better than this seasons.

Well the interview room has how many people in it?
At least in the second round, which seems to be where things are going south (they had many second rounders move on to other opportunities fairly quickly):

Josh Harris
Peters
Hurney
Myers
Spielman
Rales (?? Is he there too? There were some reports of that)


So, analysis paralysis?? Yes, very likely. It's probably hard to get that many people to agree on much of anything, especially with egos at play and other potential issues.
I didn't mind the idea of Myers and Spielman helping, but this should have been Peters' show after that hire. It doesn't smell that way. It has a Snyder-ish smell right now; just feeling like there are lots of fingers in the pot that don't belong.

Did you ever see the Mel Brooks interview - was asked does he wear boxers or briefs. He replied Depends....

Really? Most personnel people from the NFL I have seen in re the 2024 draft indicate the qb talent is above average overall from what we have seen in recent years.

Am I stuck on #2?

No. And if the GM said he really wanted Penix Jr. and felt he could get him at #12 and move down and pick up compensation, that would be something to consider. Same for McCarthy later in the first round.

I just think after 4-13 and seeing a quarterback who struggled quite a bit and didn't finish the season strong, it would be difficult to just bring the band back 'as is', provide Howell with no competition and hope for better results in 2024.

I don't see Harris buying into that as a way of generating fan interest in coming back to the stadium to see games each Sunday.

Again we were 0-6 in the NFC East.

We should have beaten the Giants (perhaps twice) and Howell's poor performance in those contests really makes you question his viability.

I don't think you don't draft a qb - just one in the second or third round . I am quite concerned with the top 3 in this years draft - Williams has mentally not fit for the NFL written all over him. Maye has the feel of a taller Howell with the same issues and Daniels has the RGIII feel all over again...

Projections show Penix and perhaps McCarthy going later in the first round.

Who are you looking at in Round 2 or 3?

Is that player going to be more than a developmental quarterback holding for field goals and extra points?
