Is there any chance now that he didn't get a single job offer that Belichick compromises and agrees to come to Washington as strictly the head coach with Peters remaining in charge of draft/free agency/personnel?

He is what, 14 games short of Shula's record?

I would guess he didn't anticipate missing the 2024 season.
I wouldn't want Belichick. The only exception could be if he came with a highly regarded prospect and the understanding was that he would mentor so and so for a year or two with the clear understanding of a transition plan in place. Problem with that is that you have to identify a green position coach who you are almost sure will become the guy, but can't be the guy now.

Thanks for that. Comforting to hear "informed" people say the kinds of things us unwashed-mass-types are saying. :)

Me personally: no to Bellichick. Just, no. I just don't like him, and we just got rid of the owner I had to deal with disliking (and owning the team). What makes it even worse is his recent record is really bad, so it's like people are just ignoring that. He doesn't come packaged with Brady, and Peters isn't guaranteed to get a Brady in the draft, so what makes anyone think he would have more success than anyone else given the last few years of Brady-less football? Outside of that, there are so many factors; age (thinking of long-term), attitude. Just no.

Betting he would’ve bailed on them too. Seems to me that he is intimidated by the responsibility being a HC entails. He isn’t ready to move out of his comfort zone and he may never be.

I really feel we dodged a bullet because the HC role is hard enough without bringing in someone with a confidence problem.

So he was NEVER coming here?

That is REALLY interesting.
I can definitely believe it, but I guess we can't take it 100%.

He probably wanted to go where he had a QB lined up that he trusted to maintain his value. So he didn't want to take a risk. Well, that's great for him, but if people are paying attention... they need to keep that in mind during future hiring cycles.

SilentThreat made a great point on last nights pod that males will pursue jobs that they are only 60% sure they are qualified for. I agree. I think it has to do with how we are raised, that promotion=success and that we should be ambitious in everything we do. I have taken a number of big jobs in my life and although I think I excelled in them, I didn’t enjoy them, and the reason above is how I put myself in that position.

that wasnt me, it was Neophyte i believe.

Keim made an interesting point. We as fans hear a name and then it gets baked in and WE WANT THAT GUY! That's totally true. I know I do it.

And I think one of the reasons Snyder was such a crap owner was because he did that too. Snyder always seemed to get his man. The problem was his man was whatever the big name was at the time, and Snyder would lock in and just go the hell after That Guy. There was no "This is the kind of power structure we want" or "This is our philosophy as a team and we want a guy who fits that". It was "how do I have to structure our front office and philosophy to get That Guy."

I don't know who the coach is going to be and I agree that the longer this drags out the worse it will look, but at least the approach seems to be correct. It's ok that we didn't get The Guy. The Team is more important than that.

That 60% thing also speaks to how you end up with shit like this.

I’m 100% sure that I would kill on a job that I was 60% sure that I was qualified for.

Those of you who have seen photos of my wife know I out-punted the coverage.

She gets asked on the regular how a guy like me ended up with a smart, pretty girl like her. Her response is always the same, "He asked."

Be bold, gentlemen. It pays off.

Confirmed- Micah Parsons is not Dan Quinn’s agent.

“We were just outperformed, outschemed, however you want to put it,” Parsons said. “Like, they had an answer for everything. And people saying, ‘Well, why didn’t you go to linebacker? Because, you know, ‘They said you could stop the run.’ Well, guess what? The packages are in for me to go to linebacker. There’s multiple packages, multiple variations, but I can only play what is called. Whatever the call is, whatever personnel they’re putting on. I’m not putting out personnel. I’m not putting out the calls. Nothing’s coming from me, so you could put that wherever you want to be or wherever you want to put it, but they’re not coming from me.”

Micah was one of my favorite wrestlers at PSU. He has zero filter and I love it!

Silent Threat, if that Schlereth post is true then Ben Johnson is not going to be a great head coach.

Coming in and turning around organizations and building winning teams was not too big a challenge for Parcells on a 1-15 Jets team or Dick Vermeil coming to a Rams team that was 5-11. Neither team had a quarterback on the roster from the previous season that was worth a salt.

Johnson evidently wants to inherit a situation like Barry Switzer or George Seifert where a Super Bowl team is ready to go and all he has to do is come in and not screw things up.

Not a lot of respect for a guy that doesn't want to put in the sweat equity.

Blech! Dan Quin.

I mean... yay, Dan Quinn.
