If they weren’t sold on Ben Johnson then there’s no issue. The lengthy process is more about the candidates they wanted still being involved in meaningful football. If they waited purely for Johnson it may end up biting them.
There is an article I saw (from a friend) saying they are also still excited about talking to Glenn. They are trying to do due diligence on a few people, including Ben Jonhson, Macdonald, and Glenn. I am sure they knew there are no guarantees, and if the reports on the 15m are accurate, they may have already had indications that Ben Johnson was NOT the guy as the media intimated.
Right now, I am going to go forward with ANYONE they select because we're not in the room. However:
- keep EB on, I will be soured
- I will watch who they pick as coordinators
- I will of course watch the draft closely
Originally I was against DQ especially with that fresh Cowboy stink I hate, but even there I will give them a temporary pass for now. I am going to give them the benefit of the doubt. We just don't know how well they evaluate skills until we see some real actions by whoever they hire. Simple example: Mayhew and Rivera after 2022 season said, we REALLY need to run the ball. Then hired EB who didn't run. Recent article by Keim showed stats displaying that even in situations where NFL tendency is to still incorporate run (down by 7 or less, late), EB still passed at a ridiculously higher rate. This is a simple example of people who just didn't evaluate well, one of many from the Rivera era. So, we will see how their new candidate does, once he is hired and starts to leave a stamp.
