I am firmly in the camp of "i don't want anyone who doesn't want to be here"

That's not out of spite, or anything, but if we're talking about the direction of this franchise, i want committed.... not settled.

WFAN is reporting now that Johnson was asking for an outrageous salary for a first time head coach.

Evidently he was looking at a contract for close to $8M a year.

PASS.

McVay and Shanahan are making over $10M now but those salaries were upped after these guys took their teams to the Super Bowl.

With you. I want someone who's all in not just signed because we waved a big paycheck at them. Now, I'm not naive enough to think a big paycheck isn't always part of the calculus, but we've seen enough coaches content to cash the money, but lacking the fire to win.

For gawd’s sake please hire someone and save us/me from all of the maybes, how abouts, could have been because ofs, rain that is currently pouring down.

Thought I heard 15 mil

You have to wonder if Harris being so ‘deliberate’ isn’t going to bite us in the ass.

This might speak more to Johnson. Harris acted pretty decisively when it came to Peters.

There are some reports that I have heard second-hand:
- Ben Johnson agent asked for 15m / year weeks ago, for him to definitely be leaving.

Thought I heard 15 mil

Yes I heard that too, second-hand.

Do you think Ben Johnson is worth $10-15M for a contract as a first time head coach based on 2 years in Detroit?

McVay got this current level after taking the Rams to the Super Bowl TWICE.

Shanahan was a coordinator in the NFL for how many years first?

It's hard for me to imagine anyone paying him that much money. I guess Seattle bailed on him and his demands as well.

I suppose Johnson is waiting for the Cowboys and Eagles to fire their head coaches after 2024.

Or he's just a Josh McDaniels type who operates best behind an aggressive hands-on head coach that runs interference and provides the 'hard glove' to Johnson's 'soft glove' approach.

Norv was like that too. It didn't stop him from taking the Washington job, but he needed a Jimmy Johnson out there in front to be the 'bad cop'.

Harris group about to take its first fan beating when they hire Dan Quinn.

Peters is the more important hire. However, my main concern is that at this point the decision should be more about PETERS.
I hope there aren't too many people in the room. Peters should be the guy who is looked at with the most clout in this decision; meaning, Harris is obviously the final say but in lieu of something that he ABSOLUTELY HATES, he should say, OK we go with your feelings on this one.

This is what you hired him for, in theory. Anyway, I am for this approach. I think being deliberate is better (much better) than the alternatives, and due to the rules on hiring, this is still within the window of reason for them.

If they weren’t sold on Ben Johnson then there’s no issue. The lengthy process is more about the candidates they wanted still being involved in meaningful football. If they waited purely for Johnson it may end up biting them.

I am a believer in their current process. The thing we don't see of course is how they evaluate these coaches. IF that gets proven badly (we will see how our new HC - person X for now - turns out, in terms of their coordinator picks, their planning. Do they go the insane nepotism route that we've been cursed with for years? There will be a lot to discover.

For now, I will trust that they are trying to evaluate "leadership" and I hope they get a sense of a solid plan from the candidate. I think the main thing I do know, I do not want EB as OC next year. If that is on the table, that's going to be a major blow to me.

Hindsight suggests all the second interviews before Johnson got his second interview might mean they were either being really careful, had reservations, or thought something might fall through.

Quinn is another retread. His defenses have collapsed in the postseason on some memorable occasions.

I don't have a problem with MacDonald, while his team lost they played a good second half against the Chiefs, limiting KC to 3 points.

Plus he comes from an A+ organization.

Dallas? Atlanta before that? Quinn is like Rivera, he went to ONE Super Bowl and with that season taken out is very average.

There is an article I saw (from a friend) saying they are also still excited about talking to Glenn. They are trying to do due diligence on a few people, including Ben Jonhson, Macdonald, and Glenn. I am sure they knew there are no guarantees, and if the reports on the 15m are accurate, they may have already had indications that Ben Johnson was NOT the guy as the media intimated.

Right now, I am going to go forward with ANYONE they select because we're not in the room. However:
- keep EB on, I will be soured
- I will watch who they pick as coordinators
- I will of course watch the draft closely

Originally I was against DQ especially with that fresh Cowboy stink I hate, but even there I will give them a temporary pass for now. I am going to give them the benefit of the doubt. We just don't know how well they evaluate skills until we see some real actions by whoever they hire. Simple example: Mayhew and Rivera after 2022 season said, we REALLY need to run the ball. Then hired EB who didn't run. Recent article by Keim showed stats displaying that even in situations where NFL tendency is to still incorporate run (down by 7 or less, late), EB still passed at a ridiculously higher rate. This is a simple example of people who just didn't evaluate well, one of many from the Rivera era. So, we will see how their new candidate does, once he is hired and starts to leave a stamp.

If EB is hired I am going to get my bag to put on my head that I just threw out when Snyder sold the team.

If I am the owner I am not hiring and paying a 55 year old assistant hold over from a 4-13 football team where the offense down the stretch was among the least productive in the NFL.

The ONLY head coach willing to hire EB as Coordinator was a lame duck Rivera who owed his mentor Andy Reid a favor.

Actually I think Quinn is worse than average. I think overall he is 42-43 or something, so if you take that season out I guess he isn't great. Also, he had a now-proven (if ever doubted by anyone here, given our experiences) genius OC in Kyle Shanahan, so it's questionable sometimes on who carried whom and where you weigh different aspects of that performance.

Still, that was years ago. There are many examples of coaches who figure it out later. People do change. I was very much against Quinn initially. Now I am going to try to give anyone the benefit of the doubt who they select, at least until they actually make some moves that we can judge.

IF EB is hired, i'll be a little disappointed, but there is at least a direction in my mind to build the team... and it may be a massive spotlight on what they think of Howell.

IMHO he's the guy if you're going to go with Howell, and not because you think he can be the guy long term, but more because it's continuity for Howell, maintaining that level of development. That would be about the only rationale behind the hire.

not what I want, but i could see a direction.
