You keep the OC and quarterback off a 4-13 team and make no upgrades at those key decision-making positions?

I want to keep Howell as well, but I want to see another young quarterback in the house that can challenge for and earn the starting job if he deserves it.

And I don't want HIS skull to get bashed in like Howell's was in 2023 over 17 games throwing the ball 40 times each week.

Again, EB had 6 or 7 interviews for HC around the league and didn't get one of those jobs. He also couldn't get an OC job last offseason other than here in DC.

IF EB is hired, i'll be a little disappointed, but there is at least a direction in my mind to build the team... and it may be a massive spotlight on what they think of Howell.

IMHO he's the guy if you're going to go with Howell, and not because you think he can be the guy long term, but more because it's continuity for Howell, maintaining that level of development. That would be about the only rationale behind the hire.

I don't know if I agree, because I think there was a pretty clear vector of his with Howell. It was not in the right direction.

I also watch interviews and read quotes very closely. Many players were asked about EB. Their answers were VERY guarded. It's an extremely bad sign overall. I don't think he was calling games well, and I don't think he ended up being liked by the players, and it was NOT due to "hard practices" or something like that. The vibe from at least a few quotes is pretty strong in general, it's not a good vibe, and these are generally people with a decent regard.

It is truly complicated to make judgements on performance and tying it to individuals. With Dan Quinn, do we know that with different personnel he would be the same? Was Kyle key to Dan's success? What other factors played a role? There are just many examples of different situations/circumstances leading to wildly different results. With EB, the main concern is that he didn't demonstrate good playcalling. I think it was very clear to me at least. That is unlikely to change; in fact, he was a bit obstinate about it. Scott was also stubborn, but even HE changed more than EB did.

I am willing to give anyone a shot here next year as HC, but I definitely want EB out of DC. I was rooting for him when he was hired, it was a good story of him coming out of Reid's shadow. His own quotes were quite horrendous too this past year, things like "I guess I just learned from Andy" were repeatedly his explanation on passing too much. Just... atrocious. To me anyway.

If we are going to target Macdonald now, it's likely going to require a pretty aggressive offer ... all the buzz I've been seeing is that Seattle is kinda eyeballing him.

Seems he's the clear hottest commodity as of about 2 hours ago.

I'm just trying to wrap my head around the different candidates, and of those, EB has some sort of a rationale behind it.

I would also question if EB is the guy why is Washington flying to Detroit and staying over now just to interview Aaron Glenn?

Seems as if we wasted two weeks of time if EB was the hire.

Right but if EB is the hire, I don't know we have to interview any other minority candidates. And if you have your guy he should be putting a staff together instead of waiting for others to interview for a job they aren't getting.

Two things jump out at me. I like people who look at you when you're talking to them--he's there. He's like 14 years old.

This will ONLY make sense to me if MacDonald was the candidate all along after Johnson asked for $15M and we had to wait for the Championship round to be over before we could have a sit down to sew things up and Glenn is the last interview to comply with the Rooney rule.

Yeah. None us know if BJ would’ve turned out to be a good HC, much less a great one. And no amount of data crunching and interviewing will tell the interview group that either. They will have more on which to base a gut feeling.

Whoever said it earlier - it’s got to be Peters who ultimately picks his man. That would be my first post-hire question.

Macdonald has been in my top 2 all along, and if it weren’t for the ‘downside’ of hiring a defensive HC he would’ve been my first preference.

If Jerry Jones wants to pay him that much NEXT offseason when McCarthy's contract expires that's fine for him.

The one thing the previous regime here NEVER did was make value acquisitions.
