What's for Dinner?

You are the man John, now I just have to get my non-pork eating wife to cook it. ;)

OMG! Boone had me thinking about good soups so I called my mom and asked her to hook me up with her Potato soup. She used to make the best potato soup but over the years since I returned from FL, she hadn't done so hot. I was beginning to think it was more of a sentimental thing. Well, I just got done with a bowl and it was spectacular!

Home alone today, just watching movies and cooking...

Doing a soup (of the unnamed and non-recipe variety) consisting of chopped vegetables (cabbage, leeks, celery, corn, onion, and garlic) with some chicken stock, canned tomatoes, fresh parsley, salt, pepper, italian meatballs and andouille sausage.

Main course is brick chicken on the grill. I butterflied the chickens and am marinating in a mixture of orange juice, soy sauce, lime juice, sesame oil, 5 spice powder, garlic, and olive oil. I haven't done the 'brick chicken' thing before, although I believe Chris here turned me on to the idea. Going to use a huge cast iron skillet I used to use on camping trips instead of bricks.

Brick chicken was fantastic... I actually used a big cast iron pancake griddle as my 'brick', big enough to cover 2 butterflied 2 lb chickens. This method is probably my new favorite cooking method as it really creates a crispy exterior and the chicken was very well done but still moist. 5 spice recipe is killer as well. Recommend :)

Charred ribeyes, baked potatoes, and salad. Guess I was pissed off more about game then I realized and took it out on the steaks.

So, my wife is learning to cook, Tonight I had some of her sweet potato puree, acorn squash and her mom made me some chili I mixed with a little rice and made lettuce wraps.

For dessert, I will have a bowl of Sugar Smacks!

A can of sirloin burger soup. Don't judge me, I had classes most of the day and didn't get home until 8, and that **** was delicious

and a side note: Pintrest is something she is in love with and I am actually starting to look/appreciate the stuff she finds. a lot of DIY stuff for around the house, as well as recipes, and fashion tips.

I literally do not have one female friend who is not addicted to Pinterest. Its incredible, really...I've never seen a website with an effect like this one. And the genius of it is that its something we've had all along (bookmarks), only slightly tweaked to make them visual.

If you guys want to get in on the fun and feel that pinterest is too girly (which it's not, I know plenty of guys who find it useful), there's always tapiture :)

I tried out Gentlemint.com for awhile, which is also a male-slanted version of pinterest. I'm just not that into it though.

Sometimes the simplest dinners are the best. Awesome meal of pork coos with salt, pepper and garlic powder, with maple glazed brussel sprouts on the side. Amazing!

Made some Jambalaya last night with chicken, sausage, and pork...pretty good stuff! Trying to decide what's for dinner tonight :)

Probably the best thing we make, and also the easiest: sweet potato salsa. This stuff is amazing on eggs, with chips, as a side dish, whatever. Simply devine!

Cube (smaller pieces) 1-2 sweet potatoes
Dice one medium red onion
Toss sweet potato & red onion with some olive oil, spread out on a pan and roast for about 20 minutes at 450, or until sweet potato is soft.
Let stand and cool down.
Place sweet potato and onions into a bowl, add one medium tomato, diced, and one avocado, diced.
Season with finely chopped cilantro & coarse sea salt.

This stuff is amazing!

Well, it was breakfast for dinner tonight: home fires, scrambled eggs and toast smothered in chipped beef gravy!

Oh wow, that does sound good! haven't had a good batch of jambalaya in forever.

I went unconventional, made biscuits n gravy, scrambled eggs w/sausage mixed in and slices of bacon.

Had crispy pork belly & braised pork cheek along with some braised pork shoulder last night at a new(ish) restaurant in Houston named Feast. SO DELICIOUS.

Pork cheek is like meat candy. So tender and deicious.

I haven't participated in this thread yet, but am going to start... I love cooking new stuff and so does my wife.

Tonight I'm makings Salmon.
I put the salmon in the oven, set on broil-HI, on the bottom rack. Cook it for about 8 minutes (depend son how think your steaks are)
Then top it with pesto, and sprinkle on mozzarella cheese on top.
