What are your Hobbies??

I'm honored, but you're a decade late to that joke, TK beat you to it by a long shot

Well me and Rick get along pretty well so I'm not surprised to know he sees people for what they are.

I've always been into nature pics and landscapes but let me tell you... the people watching in LA has got me itching to photo document some of the weird ass **** I see every day. I look forward to taking days off and just walking around with my camera to see what I can actually capture.

Thanks for the tips, I intend to. I've been messing around during some of my travel and would like to get better at it.

Here's a few from the past few years I aim to improve upon...

Each one of them I wish I did something just a little different.... It can be quite the obsession huh?

EDIT: Yeah I photochopped a couple from the carib to play with the colors

Good stuff!

I just wish I had sea legs! It was a shame spending all that time in South Florida and so little time on the water. When I get the chance, I will try to find some images from down there from a land lovers perspective...

Hey thanks. All the whales I've seen and that's the best shot. (Usually driving and nervous because when they're feeding they don't move.) I've actually had to back up and go around them a few times. Love the pics you've shared, if you have any hosted online anywhere it'd be great to check them out.

It took me a whole summer to get that moon shot. I never realized that the wharf I was on even though built on land, was moving ever so slightly and ruining all my night shots.

You remember unsonny from ES? He's becoming quite the photographer these days. I really marvel at what some people can capture. As I get older and more and more sore from each surfing, sailing or rough fishing trip, snowboarding, etc., I find myself more than content to walk around and take pics of others doing their thing instead. I think I've finally gotten old.

Thank you all...very much! I had fun in this thread! I laughed a little. I cried a little. Now, Ex...Lanky...you 2 are as stubborn as I am so I know this is going to be difficult, but can we get back on track!?!??!

I am interested to know what camera you decided on, DM?

And I am thinking we should all plan a trip to see Win in Alaska! You got enough room for 12-15 of us Win? Maybe we can see Katie catching an 80 pound King Salmon, Ex can bring his reef rig, I will bring the camera, HOF can bring the bourbon, DM is gonna bring his boat, Jenny...and Lanky and Mike will bring the beer. Goal...you just bring your little pink thing, just keep it sheathed! Boone will be renting the small bus to get us around, all the while threatening to pull it over if we don't stop acting like children! Ss, you just bring your big heart and help Boone keep the motley crew in order on the bus.

Hey! I can bring more than the heart! I think I may have a fondue set somewhere.:chef:

Wife has gotten me into running. Preparing for a 5k in a few weeks. As someone that once did cross county, I find running extremely boring. But what the wife wants...

I just did my first couple this past year. I agree, not a fan either! but its for the Girls on the Run program and a parent has to run with their daughter.

my friend taught me a trick one time...

find a hot girl who runs at about the same pace as you and stare at her booty the entire run. it makes you forget what you are doing to your body and youre done before you know it.

Now you are talking!! I've been looking for a motivator and you may have just found the secret sauce!

Looks like you have the basics down. One thing I would suggest is Lightroom 4 for editing your images. While some become dependent on it, it does help make a damn good image great with just a few minor adjustments.

And yea, I remember unsonny...I will have to shoot over the Tailgate and see what he's done.

Oh yeah...t-, you're welcome to bring your inquisitive mind on the trip to Alaska!

Never mind. Tired of engaging in your petty tiresome bull****.

edit- talking to DM, not you El

I think that's called stalking?

are there any other folks who practice some martial arts as a hobby/activity here too?

I fear Im reaching the end of my formal wing chun training now. The club isnt working our like I had hoped.

Thinking of trying out something new, and maybe more traditional as well as more focused on the inward aspects of the arts. There is a Hsing-i group that meets nearby and Im tempted to give them a go.

(btw, if anyone has experience with Hsing-i aka xing-yi, Id love to pick your brain as I am a little nervous to start over in a new art)

I have never heard of a single one of those. Can't you do something normal like karate so we can talk about Chuck Norris and Mr. Miyagi?

LOL, I get that a lot actually! Its the uniqueness that somewhat captivates me though.

I appreciate all martial arts, though am not super experienced in much. I did do the Tae Kwon Do thing for a couple of years back in my 20's, and then did a few years with BJJ and JJJ, among other forms. Sort of a jack of all martial trades, though definite master of none.

This more recent foray into Chinese arts is more our of a desire for the chi work and inner calm facets of it than actual martial training (though i still enjoy that a great deal too).

Im an old fart and these soft styles really fit my current life better than the Karate ones.

The down side, is that its hard to find others with the same interests!

......

Hell yeah, come on up and you can see this scenery for yourselves. Between me and my neighbors we'll get every one accomodated. This is one of the only places left where your neighborhood is still friendly and can keep your doors unlocked. That and everybody is armed to the teeth, lol.

God i despise running. If it weren't for being in the military i would NEVER run. My knees disagree with it the most. If your joints can handle it tho it's a great way to stay in shape, and cheap, lol.

Waaaaay back when i used to take Japanese jujitsu and totally loved it. It was like 20 years ago but when i was in it it was such a blast. Liked the sparring the most, seemed like thats the way to get the most out of it.

do you remember that from the 80s in the DC area? Jhoon Rhee used to walk the streets of SE looking for people to mug him. The cops had to ask him to stop beating up the thugs because he was so bad. He trained Bruce Lee even, and that commercial was on ch 20 every day when I was a kid.

I actually never lived in the DC area, I have always had to be a skins fan from afar! That must have been funny to see though!

going up to towards DC to grab a home brewing kit and my first recipe kit. I imagine i'll do recipe kits for the first many batches, but i'm hoping eventually i'll venture into the mixing and matching on your own realm. we'll see. I don't have a very sophisticated pallet which may screw with it.

so, basically i'm starting a new hobby for me - homebrewing.

i'll add it to my newfound enjoyment of scotch and cigars.

hopefully next season i'll be brining some free beer to the tailgate :)

Not martial arts, but have you ever considered boxing? As we get older, it becomes led and less fun, and less wear, to be rolling around on a mat.

Boxing is a great workout, and is somewhat related to what you already know.

Its good advice actually. Though, I did a fairly long stint in traditional American boxing. (I was awful though!!) You nailed it on the workout it brings too!

Honestly, my age and plethora of injuries are what have driven me to the chinese arts specifically, now towards what they call the "Internals"
