TV Show Discussion Thread

Landman is awesome. Billy Bob Thorton is great in it and the script writing is excellent.

And a second vote of recommendation from me for Severance. Really, really good.
We enjoyed Landmand until the ridiculous mother/daughter dynamic made it damn near unwatchable. We're invested enough to see it through, but that shit is senseless, cringeworthy filler...

We recently discovered we get Paramount Plus and it has opened up a lot of new things. I see that now, and of course we love Billy Bob Thorton. Is it worth it even with this dynamic?

My wife discovered Night Agent on Netflix this week. An FBI agent discovers corruption sort of show. I watched the first few episodes so I knew the players and the story. Next morning she was at it again, I saw a few and went about my day. When I came back she was still watching, I can't do that, even with Breaking Bad 2 episodes at a time is all I want. We ended up finishing the first season in 2 days, as I knew the story and the players I could pick it back up. It's good.

so Skinsfan1311, I hear you in part - my wife and I didn't find it nearly as cringe as you did (for the most part). My wife grew up in Texas and so we've had exposure to people like this in some shape/form and it didn't feel that inauthentic tbh. Either way, different people can obviously enjoy things in different ways too. :)

on that basis, Darrell Green Fan, I'd say it's definitely worth watching. Though watch one episode and see what you think.

Yes.
If/when it gets too stupid/awkward we hit the FF button on the remote.
Billy Bob Thornton is a great actor.

I hear you.
My issue is that they're spending waaaaaaay to much time on those two.

I had the exact same reaction as Skinsfan1311. My wife disagreed and enjoyed those storylines. So if Sheridan’s goal was to draw as wide of an audience possible…he succeeded.

My bottom line is that Billy Bob is so good that it was worth it to me to watch.

I'm definitely going to watch that show, thanks for the recommendation. Now I've got one, another Billy Bob Thorton series on Netflix I believe. Goliath is the show and here is the description per Wiki. We got into it and I asked my wife not to binge so I could keep up. Of course she is a serial binger and I came in as she was tuning up the final episode. I'm still bitter about that.

Billy BobThorton as Billy McBride: formerly a brilliant and personable lawyer who founded the law firm Cooperman McBride with Donald Cooperman, and with whom he built it to be a successful legal firm. He walked out of the firm and became an alcoholic after a murder suspect he got acquitted on a technicality went on to kill an entire family. He lives in an extended-stay hotel (the Ocean Lodge Hotel) by the Santa Monica Pier.[

I’ve watched the 1st of 4 episodes of the Nexfix doc American Manhunt: O.J. Simpson.

Certainty not what I would consider a well-made production but it is interesting to see and hear from the cast of characters 30 years after the fact. Undoubtedly a cultural phenomenon that captured the attention of the nation at the time and probably still does to a degree.

Do you remember where you were when you first saw the images of the Bronco ‘chase’?

Absolutely remember vividly the whole thing. Takes me back, Chris!

The ship I was stationed on pulled into Hong Kong the day the OJ chase was going on and we were watching all that in a bar drinking beer that gave me the worst hangover in my life haha.

I was at work (sportsbar/billiard room) and it was packed with the big screen showing the NBA Finals game. The OJ news and coverage, which mostly preempted the game, brought everything to a standstill with everyone crowding around the tvs. The music from the jukebox was stopped and the tv coverage became the soundtrack of the night.

Black Doves on Netflix was a total fail.

It kind of seems like it might be interesting in the first episode, and my wife watches all kinds of crap that I'd turn off, then it just totally never happens and gets worse.

Not to mention the Netflix trend of somehow believing that all anybody wants to see is 2 dudes or 2 women fuck each other, usually dudes though, on screen while never showing anything male-female in an entire series.

Also, I watched the first season of squid game because my wife wanted to see it. She fell asleep through probably 1/2 of it and I didn't want to see it anyway.

People actually like that show?

To me it's slow and not even remotely interesting. Then season 2 came out and she wanted to watch it, then fell asleep 10 minutes into the first episode so I turned it off.

If you like history documentaries there is one called Grant on Amazon about US Grant that is really good. It's only 3 episodes but they are long.

It makes a point that he was a much bigger part of US history than he was given credit for. Probably even more important than Lincoln himself actually.

Ok so the new season of Reacher is out. It's pretty entertaining just like the first two but the entire thing isn't out for another month. It's only 3 episodes so far. 5 more to go. They didn't release it like this before.

I didn't realize this when we started watching or else we would have waited.
