Hey - to be fair, you were as doom and gloom the year we won the NFC East Championship too. So that works both ways :)

And on Griffin - do you not see my point at all? I'm not saying you didn't see a real practice Brian, but it IS/WAS mostly a dog and pony show for the fans. Do you disagree?

Mostly, but what I saw from the other team was impressive. What I saw from our team was not, especially in regards to the starting QB's from both teams.

I keep hearing about the "work ethic" of Robert, I may puke. Kirk Cousins was all about business out there today. If Robert practiced the way Kirk Cousins did...Robert just seems like he wants to have fun. I swear if he doesn't start taking the game more serious, he will never be the great you all believe he will be. Again, that assessment is not from "one practice"...I have been to nearly 20 games and practices over the last 2 years. I have paid close attention to this investment.

You don't have to scowl and furrow your brow to be 'serious'. I am no Griffin apologist - I've criticized him a lot for unnecessarily putting himself in the spotlight and not being able to keep his mouth shut. But saying he's not serious about practice (and I don't want to beat on you, but you've seen public dog and pony shows - not real practices - there's a difference) or that he isn't truly focused in games, I just don't see the evidence of that. He did 'clown' his way to Rookie of the Year honors Brian (I know you didn't like the *way* he earned those honors, but he did have one of the most impressive rookie seasons by a QB ever). You're pretty tough on him. And that's coming from someone who's been tough on him.

I do absolutely trust your assessment that the Pats looked great and the Skins looked pretty bad. But it is early. I'm going to hold onto my positivity as long as I can.

I agree John, he did have a great rookie season. I will never discount what he did, but how long are we going to ride that pony? You know as well as I do that the NFL was not ready for him, but they caught up and caught up quick. No more getting by on his physical prowess. Time to get to work. And I will never discount his work ethic in the gym, they say he's an animal, but what do you expect coaches to say about there starting QB? "Oh, he clowns too much on the sideline."

It is the single most consistent thing I have seen from him as our QB after attending 20 games and practices over the last 2 years. What I see is a kid with a fragile ego looking for affirmation. He is not even remotely as mature as was suggested when he came into the league. You see it all over social media and on the sideline, plain as day. Dime store psychology? Yeah, probably.

I am not talking about scowling or furrowed brows either, I did not see that at all from Kirk Cousins out there today. But I would like to see our young phenom grow up and get serious. He acts like he didn't even stink up the joint last year.
 
Since you've decided to basically call me out I will say this....yes, the sky is falling. Brady was untouchable and our team is basically playing live ball for the first time together.

Being pessimistic about this team is easy. We have decades of practice. But actually looking for and finding good is the thing we should be doing.

You musta missed the biggest part of my write up then...the focus on the good was right there in the body of the piece.

I hear you Brian. I can't say that I'm unaware or unconcerned about some of Griffin's behaviors. But I do still believe he's a game-changing QB. I think the 'how long can we ride that pony' perspective is unfair though. We have two seasons worth of evidence. One season he was a record-breaking ROY who lead his team to the playoffs. The next he was coming off major knee surgery and struggled enormously. You're just choosing a different pony to ride. We'll know in the next 3 seasons if he's going to be a savior or just a serviceable starter. My money is still on him to become a great QB.

I'm surprised that Brady still wears a brace. And I wonder if he wore it at the end of last season, and if he will wear it this season. He's older and smart. He's protecting his health. Maybe it doesn't hinder him so much.

El, I do know what you're saying about the cavalier attitude that's on display at times. That used to get me upset with Dwight Howard too. Dwight could have just literally destroyed people every night, but he seemed to be missing that mean streak that a Kobe seems to have.

It may just be an age thing--although Dwight still hasn't completely grown out of it.

I finally got the rest of the images processed and am going to send you a new dropbox invitation with more images. I will let you just post it when you can. I do have some really good shots of the 1 on 1 drills with our OL and their DL in another file. I will get them to you when I can. I have a very busy 3 days ahead of me. So you want to take a day off to go out of town do you?

Oh give me a break. If someone else made that kind of a post you'd let them have it unmercifully :) its a football discussion board guys. No one has to agree with anyone else's post. There's zero difference in cases where the more positive folks get painted as 'homers' or blindly unrealistic. It works both ways. Let's all stop generalizing about 'sides' and making driveby snarky comments and address others with different viewpoints specifically.
 
There's no "brow beating" here that I can see. I see posters taking and debating differing views, and managing to do so without
making it personal or infantile. Just like we've asked for and demanded from day one.

Color me not surprised that the Skins got their butts handed to them yesterday. Leave it to Belichick to bring his squad out for the first intrasquad practice of a new season, against a team with a new head coach and just getting acclimated to itself, running no-huddle and blitizing in front of full press coverage. When Gibbs was deep into his dynastic phase, he'd have this veteran, championship-contending team come out against Pittsburgh in those intra-squad deals running stuff so base and vanilla it was hard to watch.

I suspect we'll see more the same Thursday night by the way.
 
You know what drives most of the tension between Redskins fans? The fact that no one, ever, really knows what to expect with this franchise. We could win another 3 games, or the division and it's difficult to know in any given year which is more likely. That's the kind of annual situation I'd love to say goodbye to. If we could just field a super-solid, consistent, mistake-free team with great coaching and a minimum of controversy and drama each year, my God that would be a beautiful thing.

A guy can dream, can't he? :)
 
Pre-season means nothing. Pre-pre-season? Nothing squared.

We have NO idea what our coaches are working on right now. Or what their coaches are working on. Or anything else. I appreciate the write up and the photos (awesome!) but I'm not going to read too much into anything that happens in August.

And yes, I said the same thing last year when we looked positively spectacular in the pre-season.

At this point in the offseason all I really care about is people staying healthy. That is, literally, it.
 
it means a little something. If you aren't tuned in and playing like you should by week 3 you have issues...

Hmm. How do I measure the relevancy, as it pertains to the regular season, of the pre-season, much less scrimmages/team exercises?

I guess I'll bring up the "ol' ball coarch" here. Does anyone want to feel that good about preseason now?!??

It's not irrelevant, I know. And the negative criticism may indeed be an accurate appraisal of this team's shortcomings. But if a shtty team like Spurrier had can crush in preseason, then a good team can suck just as easily there.

I just hope it's a productive pre-season, where shortcomings can be addressed in the reg-season through cleverness and hard work.

I know I didn't feel good when Spurrier was here during that preseason. I remember very distinctly having our starters in the 4th quarter of the 4th preseason game thinking "we can barely keep up with their scrubs who are trying out for the team, how can we compete against real teams?"
