TRADED: Brian Robinson to 49ers for 2026 6th

I never want to wish for injury, but I'm very willing to wish for a GM to panic over a tiny injury 👍
Lets see the time table on Jaylan, but it sounds like the Fins may be set with Ollie short term - he's thik. They'll enter the season nervous about Achane's durability, regardless.

BRob is no where near cut from the mold they may want for 1st down snaps if they want speed. BRob's likely to transition to a DMontgmery type role in his next stop, IMO

YCO/A -- that's yards per contact per attempt from PFF.

Chris Rodriguez ranked 10th.
Brian Robinson ranked 45th.

Quit it! I only want stats that make it look like BRob is worth some other team trading for him!

All other teams visting this site remember, Brian is really really big. So of course, he's a good power runner and he'd play with a chip on his shoulder this year.

Yep. Rodriguez ranks above all these players on yards after contact:

Derrick Henry
Saquon Barkley
Jamyr Gibbs
Bijon Robinson
Kyron Williams
Josh Jacobs
James Cook
Jonathan Taylor

and many more.

Make of it what you will.

Not that PFF is the be all and end all but its another data point

I posted this before but Rodriquez led the league in “Rushing success rate “ last year

Rushing success rate is defined by yards needed for a first down: a successful rush is 40% of yards needed on first down, 60% on second down, 100% on third or fourth. The two big caveats here are that CRod had a limited sample and that sample was mostly 2 games against the Giants and Titans. Nonetheless I saw him basically run over people in those games,

If he’s improved in the passing game since last year (blocking and receiving) then he’s probably our best first down option to start the season at least until Bill can get more experience. I think Bill could be a future star but I really see him more as a replacement/backup for Ekeler and change of pace back for CRod for now. I don’t see any of the three holding up well as an every down back for 17 games so I’m fine with a committee.

Your Skins addicted fantasy folks will be grabbing Billy boy before his ADP.

I think CRod is the guy to take if you want one of our backs, at least for the first half of the season.

How is Bill's pass pro? Vet aside, that is what often holds the "better" back, back, as we all know. Otherwise, Lache Seastrunk would be in the ring by now.

They must have guys they want to keep, all 53, because I'm pretty sure that Robinson is going to be worth more in a trade in October than he is now once some dudes are injured.
There aren't going to be carries for him. So why keep him around and inactivate him?

He doesn't do what they want. They want the explosiveness which he doesn't bring. Most likely Bill is going to be the starter, Ekler will be the 3rd down guy, Rodriguez will be the backup, and McNichols, poor guy, is either on the PS again or the 4th inactive RB. It's possible McNichols is the backup and CRod is the 4. I think they are fighting for 1 playing spot. I think Bill and Ekler have their playing spots.

But all that said, there's just no room for BRob. So, he has to go.

I feel like the plan all along was that Kingsbury was gonna change the offense in certain ways this year and it became more and more obvious that BRob wasn’t gonna be a good fit for those changes. Fading down the stretch of last season, leaving too many yards on the field, and the fumblepalooza against the Eagles also didn’t help.
I do wonder why they didn't pull this rip chord a little earlier. They could have released him after the season or traded him (if there were takers) before the draft. So I'm not entirely sure why it's taken so long.

It felt for all the world like they were going to run it back with BRob and blame the OL blocking more in his lack of success.

Apparently they blame both in equal measures.

I really think they like BRob, they just don't think he's a scheme fit.

I said this the other day but I think it’s because this was a really deep RB class and before the draft, every team in the league thought they’d be coming away with one or two of them. No reason to trade. Then after the draft, teams want to see what they have in draft picks, FA signings, and UDFA guys. So you have to see who’s healthy by the time late August rolls around and give those young guys time to disappoint. Now we’re here, the optimism has become realism, and teams are staring down the regular season knowing what their needs at the position are. And bonus, we got to make sure the rest of our RB’s made it to the regular season relatively healthy before ditching BRob officially.

I am going to guess that between what they saw at the end of last season, and what they are seeing this off season is the reason that they are now pulling the cord. Maybe there is more to the "just doesn't fit the culture" than we see as fans

That's true, and they had no real reason to do it earlier. But it now feels like they never had BRob in their plans, and if that's the case, then eh, they could have cut him loose sooner to find a new team.

"Yards per contact" also sounds like a good science fiction term. When the aliens land and approach how many yards do you keep between you and them before contact?

This below is the impression i get from a Keim comment on his podcast you don't see much from Robinson -- the extra work thing. Sticking with Rodriguez, he apparently worked hard in the off season as to getting in shape and even work with a specialist to try to improve his speed.

I wonder.

Keim said before the draft (and he repeated this recently) that the two positions they were determined to draft players were O line and RB. Granted it didn't happen until the 7th but they did take one and Croskey-Merritt was linked to the team before

Rodriguez versus Robinson as Logan liked to explain the differences -- both power backs. Rodriguez the better pure runner as to making something out of nothing. Robinson the better pass catcher and more explosive -- while neither one was explosive. Hoffman threw some metrics that backed those points.

My point is Rodriguez isn't a better scheme fit if the idea is they are looking for better pass catching -- more explosion. I'd gather they feel Rodriguez is a better power runner -- and that easily mets my eye test and plenty of metrics too.

I am focusing on Rodriguez because I think that's the dude who likely cost Robinson the job, not as much Croskey-Merritt. But certainly both of them.

Rodriguez according to Keim among others had a bad camp last year. Conversely, he had a good camp this year.

Keim rarely mentions things for no reason. So when he talked about not seeing Robinson unlike some other players do the extra things before-after practice. then we got Standig who predicted this would happen weeks back, said on a recent podcast he's heard some things about Robinson but didn't want to share just yet what he heard,

The rest of my opinion on this is purely based on what I observe and take away from the games i watch. I got no beef with Brian. i liked the pick at the time. And he doesn't meet my eye test as for a good power back. Forget explosion. He's not that hot IMO in what he majors in which is power runs. To use a baseball analogy, he's a "power hitter" who knocks 12 home runs a season. It's "meh" in what he majors in. If power was his college major, he'd be a C plus as to his "wheel house". And he'd get a D-F for the rest of his courses.

I know you doubt Chris Russell, but Paulsen backed him saying he's heard similar things. If its 4th down and 2nd, I'd cringe watching the games saying out loud please don't give the ball to Robinson. If you guys had a different vibe watching the game, cool. But as I talked about in the off season, we can do so much better than him.
