TRADED: Brian Robinson to 49ers for 2026 6th

It's really interesting that they started Chris and sat Bill.
It's somewhat possible Bill still has lingering shoulder issues, so that could be a thing.

Or that Bill and Ekler are the #1/#2 backs, and McNichols and CRod are the #3/#4, and that's already settled.

We'll have to wait a couple weeks to find that out.

All things pointed to a release pending. Front office managed to get a 6th. Seems like they saved 1.75mill in cap as well.

New RB was acquired with a 7th. Even if he only matches last year's RB output, this is a win.

I think a 6th is solid. Nice to get something for a player. Not something this team has been able to do much of over the last few decades.... based on my questionable memory.

Keim mentioned Bill is still recovering from a small shoulder injury and was wearing the black no-contact jersey.

It could just be that simple: he’s making the team and is going to get reps so there’s no need to have additional wear and tear in a meaningless preseason game.

I liked BRob from the very beginning, I had high hopes for him but it just didn't seem to pan out. I wish him well.

I like Bill and CRod as well! I've always had a thing for running backs going back to Larry Brown. Also for middle linebackers

I think this is a case where the trade worked for both teams. B-Rob was likely going to be cut so the 6th round pick is some value (plus you can also look at this as part of a bigger trade, Deebo & a 6th for B-Rob & a 5th.

I also think this will help B-Rob because as long as CMC is healthy, B-Rob will not have the pressure to be a #1 or even co-#1 by committee, he is now going to be the role playing #2 RB which is what I felt his role should have transitioned to here for awhile, but the RB room behind him wasn't strong enough apparently.

I wonder what the 49ers Message Board thinks

I live in NorCal and some of my friends are 49ers fans. They are mostly all positive on this, think they got a steal for a 6th rounder. The main thing to keep in mind is they didn't trade for a RB needing to be the #1 option so to them it isn't so much about B-Rob being a stud as it is getting a reliable bruiser behind CMC that can help keep him fresh, especially in games where they have 2nd half leads in.
